Re: Politics

No laws were broken by these kis or there parents. It's not illegal to seek asylum. They came to the front door and knocked. 1. I do not believe it illegal to seek asylum. Neither is taking away these kids from their parents. If border patrol believe the adults are a threat to the kids (among other...

Re: Politics

It's weird how, in a country whose foundational story lionizes dudes who decided that they weren't happy with the laws that applied to them, people nonetheless think "he broke the law" is sufficient cause for any amount of injustice inflicted in response.

Yeah I mean sometimes I'm just hypercritical but I have to admit I do feel safer now that crying six year olds are in prison and high school students are being sent to Mexico to be murdered

Re: Politics

Most of the credit a president deserves for a good economy (and this was true of Clinton in the 90s and Obama more recently as well) is just that he didn't get in the way. But that being said, if we're gonna credit the guy who happened to be president at the time, it's silly to look at the headline ...

Re: Capping the Loop

Rush hour should always be a nightmare for drivers. Bending over backwards to accommodate drivers is how we ended up with "surface lots and cheap land downtown adjacent everywhere" in the first place. And KC's road network has plenty of slack to absorb the closure of the north loop anyway.

Re: Politics

I am not certain that the apparent clarity with which 1970s era republicans were able to view Nixon's misdeeds is possible today. While the partisanship seems about equally toxic, there were not an infinite number of sycophantic blogs, podcasts, YouTube personalities, fake news propaganda factories...

Re: What other cities are doing about affordable housing

Why should the time of purchase mean citizens get a special deal on their taxes to keep them below the market yet be able to benefit from selling their home at market rates? Strongly agree, definitely think it's cool when poor people who maintained the neighborhood's building stock through decades ...

Bingo. The Tea Party will be back in force (perhaps under another name, who knows) the next time there is a Dem president (especially if that president is, again, not white).

Re: Politics

I'm afraid things that people expect to backfire still won't until people are genuinely hurt by the decisions. Often, that can take a number of years to realize. Right now, the Republicans can do whatever they want because they have constituents more focused on supporting things that aren't liberal...

Tillerson may be sane, may have some integrity and honesty, but hard to call him even semi-effective when he's been intentionally and systematically crippling the State Department. And in other news: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/02/us/russia-mcfarland-flynn-trump-emails.html On Dec. 29, a transit...

McCaskill isn't running unopposed, she's got a challenger hitting her from the left. I don't imagine she'll have much trouble securing the Dem nomination anyway though. I did not even realize that. It's some lady I think from STL area, used to work on ACA health exchange or something, has no govt e...
