Re: Affordable Housing

I think there is something to be said for bringing back some amount of SROs in some of the bigger and more expensive cities, but I reject them as any kind of real answer to the affordable housing crisis. I think cities like New York and San Francisco and DC could definitely use more of them as a for...

Re: Affordable Housing

Homelessness isn't an "attack on cities," homelessness is a result of capitalism's attack on people. Arresting people for being too poor to have a home is insane.

Missouri looks like it will be the first state without a PP clinic
not really, it just couldn't provide abortion services, not all PP locations do abortion services
This might be the worst and most inane "well actually"-style response ever

Re: Politics

Right. Some prosecutors in Atlanta have already announced that they aren't going to enforce the new abortion law, but you can expect that the state will still enforce it. I actually have no idea what the laws say about this but I would assume there is probably some kind of mechanism for the governor...

Re: Politics

Incidentally, my wife is actually from California. But for her, the problem is less the idea that she'd be surrounded by Republican voters, which obviously wouldn't be true in KC (and she understands that), and more that Republican voters will control the state government, which will in turn control...

Re: Politics

I'm not sure what the procedure is in KS for amending the state constitution, but they elected a Dem governor last fall, so they will presumably have a little bit more trouble changing their abortion laws for the next few years. I think your broader point, that women won't want to live in states tha...

Re: Hyperloop between KC and STL

I'm still not exactly clear on how this brand new, basically untested technology that requires a grade-separated, vacuum-sealed tube over the entire length is significantly cheaper to build than HSR that has been around for decades. This is a claim that gets repeated over and over again by Hyperloop...

Re: Affordable Housing

Recent graduates in Manhattan and San Francisco are not the real victims of the affordability crisis. It's fair to expect transplants to be able to afford to live in the place they're moving to, whatever it costs, and to not bother moving there if they can't. The real victims are the blue collar (of...

Re: GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All great points, the Chiefs totally didn't blow an immanently winnable playoff game for the nth time. Very sorry, I didn't mean to raise any hackles by suggesting that they could and should be going to the Super Bowl. You've been watching this team for a long time, so you know that it's no choke to...

Re: GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't disagree that the defense on this team is terrible, but I have a hard time pinning this on them (except for that egregious and inexcusable offsides) when this team was built all around offense and the defense did, all things considered, a pretty good job of keeping the game manageable while th...

Re: Politics

Not sure if PATCO 1981 is a super apt comparison given the unique context here though. Trump would find it politically more difficult to mass-fire federal employees who are striking because they're being forced to work without pay due to a government shutdown that a majority of Americans already bla...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

Great, criticize it all you want. I don't even have a horse in this race, I'd probably err on the side of "if the community around the street wants to change its name then change it," but it ultimately doesn't make a difference to me. It was still a bad post. I restated it in starker terms than he p...
