No we don't. Hubs are the awful, busy, and inconvenient places everyone complains about and doesn't want KCI to become like. If that's the aim, count me out.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

A ~3-4 hour drive has to be right around the threshold where most people will just drive rather than deal with the hassle and expense of flying. At that distance, you're probably going to be spending as much or more time driving to the airport, getting through security, and waiting to board than you...

Re: Three Light

To be fair, "popular on a development forum frequented mostly by urban planning and development nerds" and "popular amongst the general public" aren't really the same thing. If you just polled opinions on this forum, you'd expect KC would have a comprehensive transit network, bik...

Hard to believe this forum is almost 20 years old. Sheesh. In no time we'll have to buy it a beer.

Re: Politics

I just think the specific comparison of "Obama is a Muslim" to "Trump was installed by the Russians" is a false equivalency. Well, I dunno. It is reasonably clear that the Russians wanted to install Trump and attempted to influence the election in order to do so. On that count I...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I get that it's mostly men that do this, but I'm not very fond of the fairly recent phenomenon of lumping all men together as assholes who do this kind of shit, or "mansplaining" or whatever. I always try to take up the smallest amount of space possible on public transit because it always ...

Re: Politics

The optimist in me agrees with everything you said and thinks I'm overreacting, but it's really rough to see two diametrically opposed and completely irreconcilable worldviews accusing each other of believing in conspiracy theories and peddling fake news while having Truth on their side. I'm not say...

Re: Politics

No it isn't. You're assuming reality is a thing that can be objectively determined, and I'm telling you that we're witnessing the dismantling of objective reality, and I'm not happy about it.

edit: "Alternative facts" is just the beginning.

Re: Politics

Well, a fair few of their constituents thought Obama was a muslim installed by Saudis who wanted to destroy America. Now, a fair few democratic constituents think Trump is a nazi installed by Russians who wants to destroy America. My optimistic side likes to think we'll get through this, but the pes...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Well, the fact that Detroit has several times the traffic and is a major Delta hub for starters. Even if you think, as I do, that the impetus behind the initial movement toward a single terminal was motivated primarily by a desire to increase revenue, you'd have to be delusional to imagine something...

I was going to say, the site in question seems quite a bit smaller than what would be required for a ballpark. And that leaves out the problem of where you'd cram 20,000-odd cars.

Oh yeah, forgot about Baccala.

Oliver's is a restaurant / bar / grocer adjacent to the Gates Complex, which I've always assumed was owned by the Gates people and named after the reigning patriarch, but I have no idea if that's true.

I think most have been covered. Gladstone is gone too, sadly. Gates has a full bar. Oliver's is still open as far as I can tell. And of course there's the "venerable" Shady Lady.

Northeast has the same problem, and then some. Depends on where you are, but I would argue that in general northeast actually fares a bit better. Not much, but you've got little dive bars, little markets and butcher shops and whatnot here and there. Eleos coffe. Lots of fast food. Far from ideal fr...

Re: Thrillist ranks KC burgers

I haven't had Snack Shack in several years, but it was super awesome circa 2009ish. The ownership changed around that time (and the name too, it was originally called Shake Shack but changed presumably due to the NYC-based chain). It stayed consistent through that ordeal, but it's been so long at th...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel

Almost seems like a self-fulfilling reverse cargo cult? Start with the ideological premise that government doesn't work, then make sure it doesn't by stopping them from doing anything, then pat yourself on the back for being so much smarter than all the rubes?

Just a random shot in the dark.
