Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)

Heard a bit of a piece on KCUR about it this morning. Sounded fairly promising. Sad to be losing Local Pig--seems like they really (alongside Knuckleheads) spearheaded a lot of the positives happening in the area.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Take this whole thing back five years and you'll see me arguing that we probably shouldn't spend something like a billion dollars or more so that the airport / airlines can make more money. I was eventually persuaded that I was being silly and we really needed it. Now I'm pretty sure I was more or l...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

I don't know for sure, but outside of establishing shots of Kelly's and possibly a few other locales I don't think M&E ever actually did any filming in the city. Also within the first 40 seconds of the first episode, an unseen tow truck dispatcher advises Eddie of an accident on "35W" which basicall...

It would be funny if not so potentially deadly for the country. Our susceptibility to insanely stupid propaganda and conspiracy theories is shocking.

Re: Proposed: Hyatt House Hotel- 900 Broadway

It will be nice to finally have a hyatt back in Central KC. Think the only other one is in Lenexa There is another Hyatt Place near I-29 and Barry Road, although Hyatt Place's aren't really proper Hyatts... I think they're all franchises and offer minimal services. Sort of the Holiday Inn Express t...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Driving through downtown this afternoon, these things were everywhere. Every last one on sidewalks. Incidentally, all the bicyclists I saw were also on sidewalks. As it was around 5:15 there was a significant amount of other ped traffic. If we're gonna allow it, we probably need better sidewalks. If...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I don't entirely understand why these scooters are so psychologically different than bicycles. Is it just that bikes are larger and more visible? I can't imagine the threat of injury is that much greater than if you got hit on a bike. In a perfect world we'd have protected bike lanes everywhere or w...

I hope so, Lion's Choice beats the pants off Arby's in every conceivable way. I've volunteered to unnecessarily join work day trips to St. Louis because there's a Lion's Choice by the office there.

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I thought the same thing about Segways, although they have never really become the type of plague these scooters have the potential to be (and have been, it seems, elsewhere). That our sidewalks are underutilized is true, although I'm not sure that allowing people to terrorize pedestrians on scooter...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

It's a good point.....it's just how empty our sidewalks are 99% of the time Obviously 99% of the time is an exaggeration, but my concern is that most of the people who are going to use these things are, most of the time, going to want to use them during times and places the sidewalks aren't empty, ...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

With our narrow ass sidewalks and insistence on further eroding their useful walking space by planting trees, I don't see how having people blazing around them at running speed on powered wheeled vehicles could be anything other than a nuisance. I wouldn't feel safe riding one on the street with tra...

Re: Historic Preservation in the Urban Core

I wanted to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and say maybe he wants to fix it up but just can't afford to, but no, from what I can ascertain this dude is basically a grown up rich kid who just doesn't want to sell or otherwise do anything with the property. He's been taken to court (and sentenc...

Re: Downtown needs larger police presence

Come to Northeast, I've lived here for almost 14 years and I've only had a vehicle tampered with twice (both times a broken window with nothing stolen, just jerks breaking windows apparently). And I park on the street!
