Gillham Rd, just east of the Jiffy Lube.

Is it possible the details were taken off to be restored? When the boley building got restored I think they ended up removing almost the entire facade before cleaning reattaching it
Perhaps, they are removing Firestone symbol. Would be cool to modify it into a T for Troost.

Re: Troost developments

I saw that too. I’m hoping that they are just tucking and will go back and clean off excess grout, restoring the original color.

Also, the building at Linwood and Gilliam is being worked on. The wood window coverings were removed a few weeks ago. That one could look nice. Anyone have info?

Re: BMA Building

The garage/site is back on the market, listed at $3.8M. I wonder if it sold at the auction and whoever bought it is just flipping it. http://www.loopnet.com/Listing/3000-Pennsylvania-Ave-Kansas-City-MO/12219742/ I think it didn’t meet the minimum price so now they are hoping a better market has inc...

Uh oh, NIMBY time. The streets will never see the sun again!
The old people love Larry Sells. It’s a match made in hell. I think it’s because he hosts the Westport/Valentine associations and HKC for free at the Uptown.

Re: Affordable Housing

You can still buy a 3 BR house west of 71 for under $50k. The mortgage would be under $200/month. I think this is more of an education issue than a supply issue. I don’t see how you could get more affordable than that.

Re: Affordable Housing

The affordability number today is about keeping the top of the market down so lower end buildings are less likely to raise rates. It's probably mostly to stop developers from calling insanely high numbers as affordable for incentives like they had been doing. So, you’re thinking the initiatives are...

Re: Affordable Housing

For a single person with a roommate, 30% rent would be $840, each paying half. So I would say $750-900 monthly is a good range. But, if each were only paying half, $420/month, that would only be 15% of income, and not be in the affordable range they are pushing. Are we looking to build single perso...

Re: Affordable Housing

Under what income do you get federal housing assistance? I’m trying to see what types of rental units we are looking to build. The article gives $30k as an example with the desire to keep rents under 30% of income. That would be $750/month which seems like a good amount for a single person living wi...

Business has made a marked change over the last decade+ to have national business structures vs. regional. Businesspeople are traveling f...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte

If you're a frequent business traveler, those needs wouldn't change over time. You want a bed, bath, restaurant, and perks and you want them to be the most luxurious you can handle. For many people, hotels are necessity, not a vacation. Do we know the percentages of business hotel days vs. vacation...

The urban poor currently live meager lifestyles in neighborhoods where they can walk or take a bus to work/school/Store . And that the urb...

If the convention hotel next door has 1000 attendees of a convention or show, they're positioning themselves to be where the guests of honor can stay. Seems like such a narrow market and we already have so many hotels for high end business travelers (Loews, 21C, Crossroads, President, Ambassador, I...

I really hate the traditional hotel room... two beds all in one room, bathroom, closet. I really think people want more than that now, especially families. They want living space. Places like Hyatt House with living rooms, kitchens and separate bedroom for parents/children should/will be the new nor...

Re: Strongtown: Suggestions for KC's downtown streets

We're seeing increased evidence of people of means moving into urban areas and pricing out existing residents who are then forced to seek housing in the burbs...basically. In many ways, I think this is a positive progression. Traditionally in our city, the core has held the unbalanced burden of car...

It looked like the first exterior panels were being installed on the first floor today when I walked by. They were dark grey precast with modular angles.
