Re: "Tower East"

Martini Corner was used well before The Drop came around. When I first moved to KC in the early '90s, Velvet Dog was one of the first area bars to latch on to the martini craze. There was literally nothing around that area at the time. Yep, thinking about it again, that seems right. Velvet Dog was ...

Re: "Tower East"

I believe the name Martini Corner came into effect when The Drop opened. They definitely had martinis. I think the Velvet Dog has them too for a bit.

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I didn't have any real beef with the scooter riders until today when I was driving back to work from getting my hair cut. I really think they need to be banned on Main from 12th to 20th. The traffic lanes are just too narrow to be able to get around them safely and the streetcar tracks are a scoote...

Re: The Russell on Main

You can get a filling meal across the street at the scharmwa palce for $8 and have leftovers Really? I went there when they first opened and ordered a gyro and it was the size of a taquito. I literally ate it in 4 bites and was out $8. Maybe they got the message and upped their portions. I’ll have ...

Re: Various restaurants coming to City

That’s a ton of new places, especially in the Crossroads. Is there enough demand for them all? Could get much more competitive soon.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

My guess is they are a little overwhelmed with the success. I don’t remember them having quite the following last summer like they have now, so might be a bit to adjust. I would think this is why they are adding the second location. Perhaps they will take some of the pressure off the other location....

The location in Waldo is packed all the time and out the door line. This second location won’t have any problem.

Re: KC in TV and Movies

Jason Kander on CNNs Jake Tapper round table hour today with several references to KC and his race for mayor. Suggested that they have a whole hour talking just about Kansas City and gave some very good advice about Democrats looking to win races in the Midwest and other red states.

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

Well at least it would look better than the Board of Education building... at least that's a positive. I’d take the BOE building. Simplistic mid century modern building that could easily be updated. It’s an underappreciated style that will continue to gain fans in the next several years. Has alread...

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

Just say no. No reason to give a reason. It's not that hard to come up with a reason, like it will destroy walkability in the government district . The problem I see with the current plan is that there is no point negotiating when there is absolutely no chance coming to a valid solution that is goo...

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

Planning just needs to give a straight, “No!” to this plan. I find that often they try to give reasons to not approve and in the negotiation we end up with something worse. Just say no. No reason to give a reason. It’s so far from what the city needs, it’s not even worth a negotiation.

Doesn’t seem to be working very well. Six are available on the Plaza right now. How long til someone suggests a bird mob?

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

What is wrong with the old building? It looks to be a pretty cool mid century building to me with more height than the replacement. Why can’t it be repurposed? It’s bad enough the public school board in this city can’t provide decent education for children for more than a decade; now they have to dr...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I actually struggle with etiquette. I don't want to drive on sidewalks, but i also don't feel safe driving on the side of the road, especially around intersections. In the very rare situation where I'm around a busy street, I drive in the lane especially if I'm turning. If I feel like I'm holding u...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Curious what will happen on First Friday this week. They better launch some more scooters or they will be all gone by 4 o’clock. Would be a good day for Lime to launch. Lime and KCMO are at loggerheads over the high fees (which, ironically, were suggested by Bird). I don’t know if that’s such a bad...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I loved living on the plaza but I've never thought about moving back after living downtown... It's not as friendly to the surrounding residents....so the idea of catering to them a little more (who are there 365 days a year) vs just the tourist that will windowshop and ohh/ahh that they see a Burbe...
