Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
There will be vote needed for the city’s portion is what I’m told from the top people with the city. So, the Royals have said that if the county tax is extended they will build the stadium, but that’s disingenuous because there’d have to be another city vote. What happens if the city vote fails? Th...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
“The $350 [million] is really that base financing. We’ll have asks of the state and the city, and if it’s not specific, they certainly know the range. And then ownership will take the rest of that Yeah, I just don’t believe them and there’s no hard document holding them to amount and timeframe. I’v...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Center islands breed panhandling issues. Sounds like an enforcement issue. I actually mentioned it on here a few years ago and people responded with”this is what happens in an urban area!” so I dropped it.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
They’ve committed to spending a billion dollars on the village portion. Show me where the Royals have committed to put $1b into this project of THEIR OWN money, not city or state money, THEIR OWN. They seem to be playing shell games, counting one funding source as theirs even though it came from an...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
KC Current: zero incentives from city, county or state. Sold out the entire season and ticket prices starting at $150/ea. someone explain to me how $1.7B in incentives for the new Royals is a better deal than lowly women’s soccer? Because it cost 1/10th of what a new MLB stadium will cost. If they ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Main Street Streetcar Extension
The northbound Union Station stop will be activated this fall as part of the rail tie-in to the Main Street Extension. There will be a system outage during this period, covered by a three-vehicle bus bridge (most 'emergency' bus bridges are two vehicles). This new stop will include the new cellular...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Because the exact figures haven’t been confirmed… Yeah, I’m calling bullshit on this one. There is absolutely no way the Royals make the statement “if you approve this tax, we’ll stay in Jackson County without knowing that figure. and why would a political leader take a risk if they don’t need to? ...

If the Royals are going to get money from the city and state, it’s already been agreed upon. So, why won’t they release those numbers?

Re: Restoration of City Control Over KCPD
If Kansas City got local control of it's police board and then crime rate increased, that would be a lesson for Kansas Citians to learn from and correct by electing the appropriate people. Not a state appointed board. I’d agree with that though I don’t really think it would happen. People wouldn’t ...

So, the affect this has on crime, good or bad, shouldn’t be a determinant?TheBigChuckbowski wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 1:46 pm The argument for local control should have little to do with crime rate. Police should be accountable to the people that they police, not one man living halfway across the state.

Re: Restoration of City Control Over KCPD
Some of the highest crime rates are in so-called red states. It's not just as easy as what party is in control. New York State and New York City have among the lowest crime rates in the country, and lower than many so-called "red" states. More often it has more to do with the poverty rate...

Re: Restoration of City Control Over KCPD
^^ To be fair, Democratic initiatives on policing haven’t improved crime rates in our cities either. I think a good compromise would be a trial return to local control. If crime rates fall, it becomes permanent. I’m just not sure our mayor and council would make the crime situation in our city any b...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I don't think the Royals meant harm, they are probably just detached from the community. I get what you area saying, but hopefully the team and those against the stadium can come together and find common ground. That does not seem to be happening though? I don't either. They listened to some bad ad...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
That Crossroads District actually could be one of the most amazing urban neighborhoods in the midwest or even country, if KC would just allow it to happen. I think this might be where you and, for sure, the Royals are getting it wrong. You’re saying that with your ideas this could be a great place....

I still think they should greendeck the convention center and just make this a apartment complex over the entire BAP site. One inch of grass, gravel or planters isn't going to hurt the structural integrity of that building.

No worries, we'll just route it all to Main. I'm sure the streetcar won't be impacted one bit.
