Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Overall though, is the consensus that Linwood 31st is the logical next spur after UMKC? What I hear is that the consensus is that the Plaza extension will be the last in the foreseeable future for streetcar. The east side had there chance to have rail through their neighborhoods and blew it by voti...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Light rail makes more sense to the TSC. This would also connect eastern suburbs to DT with Park and Ride to the RM.

Re: Politics

You’re right. I just wonder why someone would make such a stupid decision. Did he think he was so untouchable that this wouldn’t get out? The ego involved would have to be enormous...godlike. It’s almost purposeful self sabotage. So, my apologizes for the question. I thought she said this was a cons...

Linwood angles towards 31st at Gillham.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Yes, if you were avoiding hills, you would have to take Linwood to walk downhill. That would add 2 minutes to your walk over a 31st stop, the time to walk 1-1/2 blocks from Linwood to 31st.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Maps...McGee Trafficway diagonal to the stop. Plus, potential 31st stop would be up hill. If that was your walk everyday, you’d always walk down the hill to 27th.

moderne wrote:From the Filling Station at McGee and Gillham it is a 20 minute walk to 27th & Main. To Linwood and Main it is 17.

Filling Station walk to 27th and Main stop is 13 minutes and .5 miles...the same distance and time as from there to 31st and Main.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Mike- What kind of distances are we talking about here? Give me an example of how far you would have to walk with the currently planned stop. It seems all of the UH neighborhood is less than a mile, and that’s if you’re at the further end of the neighborhood on the farthest house from the stop.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Any technical reasons to have to stop at the top of a hill as opposed to a slope?

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Except for we use the same logic for all of the stops therefore some of the other stops may be 0.4 miles or 0.2 miles between 43rd and 47th street. I assume they will try to move stops closer to 31st since that is the largest gap, shaving .1 Mile on each side. Thus, will likely be something like: P...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I understand the desire for distances, but you can’t measure from the middle of one street to the next. If 27th St stop is on the south side of the block and the Linwood one is on the north side (most likely for both) it would probably be .5 miles, similar to the others.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

It seems it’s been set up to be fully paid and free as long as federal funds are received. If federal funds aren’t received, then the TDD funds don’t arrive either, per the election. Would love to get official word before ballots arrive, but everything I’ve heard says it will be free like DT.

I like mid-block too. Put it in front of The Russell and Gates. This consolidated stop would be very active and an excellent push for redevelopment of several properties in the area.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The proposal was based on data, as outlined above (ridership at 31st is based on current MAX, not some future prediction of induced demand). Show the proposal to the public and let them respond. That's how the process works. That's why we have stop lights on Watkins and a curb stop at Union Station...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

^ Why does “quantity matter”? Of course you will get more response from those wanting the 31st St stop since you’re planning to take it away. This decision shouldn’t be made by tics on a survey. If it has to be between two stops, let the experts decide based on ridership numbers.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

^Agreed. Union Hill needs a stop. I just don’t see why it has to be either or with Linwood (which also needs a stop). The travel times added for one stop is negligible. I do know there are always people waiting at the Linwood stop, probably as many as any DT stop.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The part of Union Hill south of 31st has largely been neglected. I’d love to see the neighborhood and Martini Corner expand into the empty land all the way to Linwood. I think putting the stop on Linwood would push this expansion and be better for the neighborhood. There is space there enough for MC...
