Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

https://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article231799633.html For USDA researcher Andrew Crane-Droesch, a cross-country move from the nation’s capital to Kansas City is out of the question. Giving reasons: ...”Number four, I have a deal-breaking preference to live in a walkable city,” h...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

This is the right move. Now, they should remove the couches in the bar area and fill the space with small tables. It still would be move casual than I would like but it would be packed all the time. I thought they might convert the dining room to a breakfast space when I first went there at opening....

Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park

I thought this was a national monument now. Why should funding be an issue? I assumed it was being maintained by the federal parks service. It has gotten bad though. There is always standing water on the west stairs which will likely cause issues in the future.

Congrats to 4th District councilman Eric Bunch! Haha, what a world.
What committee assignments should he get? Obviously, transportation would be right in his wheelhouse (perhaps as committee chair?), but I’d really like to see him in Planning & Zoning.

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

Generally, think we are near the end of needing subsidizes in the DT area. I don't think we are close to ending TIF's/abatements. Rents aren't rising fast enough to keep up with construction cost. Increase supply will do that. Keep the incentives and prices will actually decrease. Generally, I’d li...

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

I think the council doesn’t have the stomach to heavily subsidize a large development with taxpayer funds like they did P&L. I’d say it would have been developed by now if they did. Of course, it’s probably best that it wait since a non-subsidized or less-subsidized structure is more likely as we co...

Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

Because that is the law? Yeah, but the school district has a small fraction of the number of students that it used to, they have more buildings than they can occupy and haven’t really proven to be efficient with the money they have. That is the basis for my “why?” It seems the payments to the distr...

Re: Troost developments

Sorry, I just have a personal hatred of the show. I find myself screaming at the tv when they say hardwood floors can’t be restored just because of one spot in one room. Then they put back click together floating floor. They do a terrible job of repurposing anything and history means nothing. And fu...

Missouri doesn't allow commercial uses on (or above) their property, or at least that's what the city and consultants (HNTB) found... Remember that the city has no say over the school budget and vice versa. How do we change this? Schools is as much an economic development issue as business attraction or transportation and I feel the current district leadership just has their own interests at mind instead of what is good for the c...

Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

From an outside perspective you have to think this has to be a sign of progress. When original TIFs start to expire DT the city should begin to see a rapid growth in revenue. These residential property tax increases are just the beginning. You do have to wonder how this will be spent. Will city offi...

Let’s be honest, KCATA and PortKC have a strong working relationship and are trying to help each other in ways that benefit each other. PortKC wants garages for future development and streetcar expansion and “park and ride” are the excuses.

Ok, carry on. I’ve also seen people park cars there when picking up takeout orders but can’t blame them too much if there are several other vehicles already there. I suppose it’s just part of being a city. Still don’t like it.
