Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

You guys are acting like something is actually going to be built on this lot once it’s torn down, even discussing the street grid. Nothing will happen. It will be torn down and nothing built in my lifetime. If there was demand, the spiral building would have taken shape 3+ years later. Surprising to...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

The previous owner had found that it would be cheaper to replace the building than to rehab it... Yeah, I’m going to call BS on that. Now, the value to them is obviously more as an empty lot. But, if the goal of development DT is new residents, it is cheaper per new resident to rehab the existing b...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

Reusing existing buildings is the best way to provide affordable housing, not injury the environment and increase activity and density in the city with minimal money spent compared to a tear down and, eventual?, rebuild.

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

If that can force Cordish to turn the Midland building into affordable housing in exchange for money for 3 Light, the city can force Copaken to turn this building affordable in exchange for Strata money.

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

I’ve changed my mind on Strata now too. If Copaken is a company that is going to just tear down useful buildings, they should be taken off the TIF available builders list.

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

If there’s ever a building perfect for affordable housing, it’s this one. Another demonstration why the KCPSD is inept.

Re: Companies moving downtown

I do not know which CC buildings CM is in, but its my understanding that many of them are far from "top tier' in rents, layouts, or amenities. I also don't think there is enough contiguous space available for an immediate move nor future expansion It’s my understanding that CMH has filled most of t...

Children’s Mercy will be moving all of their employees currently in Crown Center to their new building under construction. I haven’t heard anything about 1034 Main yet but this would be a good fit.

I sure wish they had chosen the Northland for the TSC 50 years ago instead of Eastern Jackson County. We’d be building plans for light rail to the stadium and airport right now.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

It’d be overrun with homeless people. I’d also like to see them eliminate the center of traffic medians. Giving access to driver side windows encourages panhandling.

TBH none of that sounds appealing anywhere downtown. What’s the harm in leaving the stadiums where they are?

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

^agree with your whole post. while i agree 100% with the idea of STL seeming "closed-off" and KC seeming comparatively "open," i really have no idea why i have this impression. what accounts for this? I think KC is much more connected to farming communities in the Midwest. Most everyone I know is on...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

personally don't think kc and st. louis are really all that different except that st. louis is one victorian/industrial boom cycle older... This might be it. There are some amazing Victorians in St. Louis while there are very few in KC that I know of. Pendleton Heights has a few very nice ones but ...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

St. Louis has some of the best historic residential stock that I’ve seen available. Meh, I’m kind of with the kids on this one. St Louis has a fairly unique look. It’s just not one a lot of people really want, or the downsides to St Louis do not outweigh whatever charm someone might feel, and there...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

Did you seriously expect a company to spend money buying land, give it for free AND pay for the stadium too? Why would they ever do that? Easy, because if you give up half your land but the remaining land that you own around the stadium would be worth a huge amount more and also gives you the easy ...

Man, this thread got weird.
Quit your drivel. Next you’ll be talking about the St. Louis Steamers and “soccer USA” and how it’s the center of the soccer universe but are just now back peddling into an MLS team when the league has been around for decades. Enjoy your Expansion team.

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

St. Louis has some of the best historic residential stock that I’ve seen available. Pre-1900, handlayed brickwork, plasterwork is amazing and are all super cheap. They just don’t have as many young people who want to see a better urban society develop. Honestly, if I could stomach the city at all I ...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

In today's article: "In 2017, VanTrust Real Estate was granted the development rights. Since then, the firm founded by the late wealthy businessman Cecil VanTuyl has been acquiring the remaining properties in the East Village area and now controls about 85 percent of the land." What do you think Va...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

I’d love for the city to pull development rights from the current East village developer and give it to a Royals controlled entity. City has full control of one block, parcels in a few others – not sure that's gonna be an effective strategy. I don’t understand. We have a developer for East Villafe ...
