Re: Next Mayor 2019

Someone tell me about Steve Miller. He has the second most cash on hand and talks about building infrastructure including expanding streetcar. Good background of running infrastructure projects which would be good for airport progress. Have never heard of him though.

Re: Politics

There is so much talk about automated cars recently with Tesla and others working in self driving. I’m surprised that airplanes haven’t also seen movement in this direction. This would eliminate pilot cost and allow automated air traffic control systems. The cost would probably be paid for by the ex...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

^ Seems to me not a bad thing to see alternatives and then push Edgemoor to produce a better product and speed up work. They better get busy or they will lose this contract. Just getting the bid and skating isn’t going to get it done.

Re: High Speed Rail - someday?

is there many chance in the future that we are considered one metro? If travel times are as short as driving from Lawrence to DT do we get a “Missouri” labeled NBA team? Do two airports become redundant? Do artists choose one venue or the other? I know this is WAY in the future, but I wonder what a ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

There were small work lights on all floors of the hotel last night. It showed height deminsion in comparison to all the rest of the buildings DT and gave an idea of what a new nighttime skyline will look like. Very cool!

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

We have to decide if we want affordable housing or chic, cool buildings. If you want affordable, keep every useful building like this one and find an empty lot for your new building. Increased supply produces decreased cost to live in the city.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I believe I heard that Goodwill is staying and has renovation plans. They will not be renovating. The choices are sell and move or stay in the building as-is. But, the sale discussions are very, very preliminary if they materialize at all. Even the discussion is a good sign for that area and the fu...

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

[taking a moment to acknowledge that if it weren't for the entire rest of my posting corpus this would be one hell of a post for making people think i'm a 60 year old lady lawyer instead of a male child who can mostly operate an internet-enabled device!] The ‘old’ and ‘lady’ terms were just discrip...

Yeah but then you have to deal with DeJanes and her cabal of NIMBYs. As long as she lives in Brookside, a line there is never going to happen.
We’re letting some old lady with a law degree determine the transportation plans for the city?! She’s nothing.

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

Agreed, but I'm not sure that a riverfront extension prohibits extensions elsewhere, i.e. to areas which are already somewhat developed and needing incentive to get more dense. If there are entities that have the power and money to push this extension, more power to them. The entities with the powe...

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

^How is building the streetcar to empty land any better than building a big highway to empty land (suburbs)? Millions of dollars for, hopefully, thousands of people in a sprawled area seems non-urban and non-cost effective. There are already areas with many more people that could benefit from better...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Apparently, this was the last New Years convention for the church group. Kind of a shame as I loved the feel of DT with thousands of more people walking around. Gave me the idea of what the city could be like with that many more residents. https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2018/12/28/inter...

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

I just don’t understand why this extension was done without it going to the casino. It doesn’t bring any additional destinations, doesn’t provide large park and ride garages like the casino has and adds few residents to the line for commuting...all while making the loop trip longer for others riding...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

^ Are you trying to argue for the convenience of how KCI is currently laid out? You make it sound like grabbing your bags and leaving and reentering is a easy endevour. First, you’d have to wait in line to reenter. Take off your shoes. Get your laptop out. Take your belt off. Pull everything out of ...

I was hoping and guessing FangKC had pictures. So, is it two separate buildings with the annex or was the annex an add-on to make one building? Development as two buildings might actually be better. Would love to see her undressed of all that aluminum.

Many have talked about the Tension Evelope building for redevelopment but I recently heard there was a shallow inquiry about the Goodwill building next door. It’s covered in metal siding. Does anyone know what it originally looks like?

I really doubt the Phillips will be converted to housing. Architectural Digest named it Missouri's most beautiful hotel. Every hotel has to update the rooms over time. https://www.hotelphillips.com/ Not talking about the Phillips converting to housing, just the Criwn Plaza which has nothing histori...
