Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

They're welcome to, but utilities exert power at the state level (which is all too willing to preempt local control). Well...damn. It just drives me nuts. Pet peeve. I saw the utilities marking up Main Street last month in the Crossroads along the streetcar route and just about lost it. There’s jus...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Because the city can't really tell the utilities what to do, as long as they restore the current condition. Technically they can, but they won't. Then they need to expect more pothole complaints every year. You take a smooth road surface and cut a big hole in the middle of it, it doesn’t matter how...

Re: City Center Square for sale

There is really nothing in the second level. This could be a two story Target. There could be a much small lobby on the west side with access to the elevators and still provide the remaining space for the store.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Armour closed now with utilities tearing up the street...the one that was just repaved and striped a few months ago. I don’t understand why we do that in this city. Raise the road construction fee for utilities x10. Have the money go to sidewalks or pothole repair or affordable housing, anything to ...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Shouldn’t there have been an election for a new TDD officer this last election? I don’t remember seeing it in the ballot. Obviously people like to have choices in elections, but since the new TDD has no resources yet and those revenue sources haven't been turned on, no one was interested in challen...

Re: Hotel Overbuilding?

I don’t really understand the dilemma. Room prices go down? Older hotels have to remodel? Conversions to housing? I don’t really see a problem. The biggest negative is that we allowed a few bad hotel developments like Home2Suites where we might could have kept all new hotel building higher end. If a...

Even if the article is completely true, shifting that demand line back to the balance point is easily done: private developers will take some of the older hotel room stock offline and convert it back into apartments or condos.

Re: Affordable Housing

The internet has greatly reduced the need for parking. 20 Christmas’ ago at most malls, you’d have to wait for someone to leave for a parking spot. Unfortunately, it takes governments a long time to move on trends.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I’ve probably pushed the merry-go-round of this topic too many times already. I understand the desire for people living or working DT to get quickly to Plaza and vice versa. If drilling technology magically advanced to be cheaper than running above ground, many people would want a DT to Plaza speed ...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

^ Because it’s a streetcar, for the benefit mostly for those living alongside it. It’s not a commuter rail and never will be. It’s not going to connect to Liberty or the airport or JOCO or the stadiums. Those would all be bigger trains that would connect at some point along the line. We can see that...

Keep fighting for next year! Is there work that we can continue with other money sources that would make for a more quick build when we do get approval?

I would guess nuclear family structure, or lack there of, is more likely to have a correlation to grade scores than anything.

Re: Academie Lafayette

Do you think "bitterness" is an appropriate governing approach? I agree that the KCPS school board is full of bitterness, and that combined with general incompetence is why they have produced decades of spectacular failure. It’s, obviously, not a great approach, but I think you also have to acknowl...

Re: Academie Lafayette

Having the public school system not under our local government gives them a free pass to not push for change. This should have been a major issue in the recent elections but it’s just too easy to blame a dysfunctional school board and move on to the next topic. A school system that hurts the overall...

I don't trust Loar although I do think she is pro development If you grew up in the suburbs, you can easily understand Loar. I don’t think her motives are ever evil, she just has an old mindset. I’d guess she’s looking at this issue solely from a logical standpoint of more money for the city and ke...

Re: On-going downtown development projects

Why was she the one to do this? It seems in city councilpeople should be fighting to keep our development tools in place. I don’t care much what her motive is, it’s the right thing to do and how the two mayoral candidates respond will determine my vote in June. Jolie is against capping our developm...

Re: Next Mayor 2019

Really torn on this election. They both have been decent councilperson s and will continue city development. I don’t really feel like we can go too wrong. Not a fan of Lucas’ affordable housing plans in the limited details so far and Justus was shaky on the airport, imo.
