Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Ingredient closed (permanently) today. Might have happened some time ago, but workers were moving out supplies over lunch. Bread & Butter Concepts (Gram & Dunn, Taco Republic, etc.) is opening Republica in that location. The Star said it would feature Spanish food with a twist - and not jus...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

if you looked in the pits for the streetcar utility work you know it's a crazy maze of stuff underground I worked one time with the guy whose job it was to mark utilities in the sidewalk. they marked a bunch of them and the group doing the actual work still found a pipe that was missed. I agree com...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

Yeah, but it sounds like it's on par with how many they were hitting in KCMO when they started a couple years ago. I'm not sure that's really relevant when the current cause of hitting gas lines is subcontractors intentionally not marking those lines. It means each hit was easily preventable and sh...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

Whiny little article in the Lee's Summit Journal today. http://www.lsjournal.com/2015/01/28/125073/google-starts-installing-fiber.html Not sure why they're surprised that they're hitting gas lines... That article wasn't well written at all, but I think it's a problem that subcontractors weren't get...

I saw the poles without knowing the project and hoped it would be something really cool architecturally--bummer, they're just hanging a net from them.

Close it, gut it, or at the very least clean it.

does anyone have a pic of what the streetcar will look like also the union station stop is it true that they will have a stairway to board decending from the skywalk over pershing no stairway from the link (too expensive, and would require an elevator for ADA). the stop was moved to the west curb a...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

they're not blocking google fiber. this poster on reddit makes a good case for why not http://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/1wko8i/kansas_legislature_wants_to_stop_any_other_kansas/cf2w48s i guess technically it doesn't block google fiber, but as a practical matter, the city can't condemn an...

Re: The Health Care Debate

I don't think a catastrophic policy would benefit someone with a chronic condition. I would think that person would use the tax credit to pay for part of a better policy. I think you're right that almost nothing will convince a young, healthy person to buy insurance. At some incentive point, though,...

Re: The Health Care Debate

The conservative alternative I've heard floated (by pundits, not by politicians) is tax credits for catastrophic coverage (essentially making the premiums free), and making the tax credit for employer-provided care flat, so there is not an incentive to get expensive plans. In theory, employees woul...

Re: The Health Care Debate

Lifetime caps is a good policy reason, but the rational applies to all insurance. Most people's auto insurance has a maximum of $100,000-ish?, but that wouldn't be enough to compensate someone if you wrecked their car, put them in the hospital for a week, and caused them to miss six months of work. ...

Re: The Health Care Debate

Well if you click the "insurance rescission" hyper link, it's pretty obvious that it was occurring post 1997. Two aspects of the ACA that seem to address this would be the actual existence of minimum levels of coverage along with the threat of being excluded from the exchanges for egregio...

I don't have to advocate it, it's the law. While I understand you're just being snide, unlimited coverage is not what the ACA mandates, so if you want to advocate for unlimited coverage, do it. Also, unlimited coverage certainly doesn't mean everyone gets treatment. Maybe we were talking past each ...
