Re: NE Kansas County Growth Rates

Luckily West Lawrence has commissioners in the midst of a grand rezoning campaign that will discourage the sort of suburban bullshit developments that plague West Larry currently.  There is already a development that should be underway soon in West Lawrence that will "redefine" developmen...

What happened here late Friday?  KMBC showed a small 'breaking' segment with fire crews in front of the WS Tower.  Anyone have info?

Re: Above Eastern Jackson County

Not well educated, and making 60K?  What line of work has that??? Agree on everything else.  A college bud of mine lives in the Waldo/Brookside area, and I love hanging out in that part.  I have another friend that lives out in O.P. (143rd and Metcalf), and you can just feel the sense of isolation, ...

Re: Wichita's Downtown development

And this puzzles me, since Boeing sold off the Wichita plant (or so I thought), which then was renamed Spirit Aerosystems.  Why the hell this news is still under the Boeing header is beyond me. BTW, I'll back up everything folks have said on here.  Old Town is a pretty cool place...wait until the Ri...

Re: Why a Downtown Stadium Didn't Get Off The Ground

Great post above, max.   Had anyone gone forward with DT, Glass's contribution wouldn't have been much more than it is now.....and it would have left the city and others to foot the vast majority of the bill. What also hurt the DT argument is that there was never a settled site.  And without a settl...

Royals to make major announcement regarding renovations later today (Mar. 22nd).

According to a release I have in front of me, David Glass will make this annoncement at 3PM local time.

Anyone know what this is about?  Does it have anything to do with the Royals not submitting their renovation plan on the 15th??

Re: NASCAR hall of fame in KCK?

With all of the speculation of this city being the prohibitive front-runner for this thing, the news that KC was the first one out hit with a resounding thud. Probably don't need any more evidence than the dismissal that NASCAR was never interested in building the HOF here in the first place;  they ...

Re: What restaurants do you want in the P&L District?

The ambiance of Arthur Bryant's on Brooklyn can never be duplicated anywhere.  If you're looking for the experience of barbecue, that's the place.  Ameristar and Village West can't re-create environment.  But if you're for the food, then I can't help but think that all places are ok.  I dunno, maybe...

Good God I miss living in Lawrence.....why is college so short?????

And I completely agree with your assessment of Wescoe Hall.  From afar, I confuse it with a prison.  And in a couple of English and Western Civ classes, it was.

Re: Thanksgiving Football

Add to the fact that Ford Field's seating capacity is  listed in the 65 - 66,000 range, it makes the lack of turnout even more depressing.

I'll say this much, for as much as Mariucci's been on the hot seat recently, more of it has to lay at the feet of Matt Millen.

"What's best for keeping baseball here long term? Keeping the fans happy and coming to the games - Kaufmann doesn't get it done. That is FACT."

That's funny, considering that when I do go to games at Kauffman, I have a good time.  It's the team that's not getting it done.  That is fact.

Re: Breaking News

OK...would the city just die if there were no light rail for an event like this?  What about importing as many transit buses as needed to accomodate the extra folks, and add as many extra routes as possible to get them from place to place?  Whoever said that things would have to remain static for a ...

Re: Breaking News

As for the hotel rooms, I don't think that situation is as dire as people suggest.  Remember, this area was able to host 79,000 Nebraska and Oklahoma State fans for a game at Arrowhead in '98, and were able to accomodate two sold-out OU/KSU Big 12 Championship games.  I don't think hotel accomodatio...

Nice figure. Also, if you have the time, check out this article by Michael Silver of Sports Illustrated: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/michael_silver/09/06/mike.katrina/index.html Read through that, and then you'll begin to realize that Tom Benson literally has no chance in hell of c...

Re: NO Hornets

If you look at the plight of the pro teams of New Orleans through the league's eyes, it would be nothing short of a HORRIBLE PR move to pack up and permanantly move to another city leaving NOLA in the dust.  I highly doubt that Paul Tagliabue and the NFL would allow Tom Benson to do such a thing.  A...

Four Brothers

Anyone seen the trailer to this movie?  I've seen one version like three or four times on Comedy Central (and ESPN), and I swear I see the Bartle pylons and the glass towers in a brief sky shot in the commercial.
Anyone know about this movie, where it's supposed to be set, etc.?

Re: Jackson County discusses stadium upgrades

The key thing about the NHL lockout is that even though there were a few franchises on the sale block, there were no takers.  That's a telling sign.  So many mid and smaller market teams in that league (under the old operating structure) that couldn't compete for players with the largest markets, an...

At this rate, Wichita's downtown arena may be open before KC's.

We all should know by now that there are no geographic limitations to the recent proliferation of radical Christian Conservatives.  Whether they reside in Liberal or Leawood....point is, it isn't an east-vs.-western Kansas thing.

Re: Wichita, KS

I spent the weekend in Wichita with a bunch of friends celebrating a bachelor party, since one from our group is taking the plunge.  Well, from the things I remember seeing as we walked through downtown to Old Town, was a large amount of empty space in office buildings.  Downtown Wichita is fairly c...
