Re: "Tower East"

I believe the name Martini Corner came into effect when The Drop opened. They definitely had martinis. I think the Velvet Dog has them too for a bit. Martini Corner was used well before The Drop came around. When I first moved to KC in the early '90s, Velvet Dog was one of the first area bars to la...

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

Looks like every other Drury built in the last ten years. Specifically the one next to the mall in Chesterfield Mo. The street-level environment around that one is pure depressing shit. The only design element considered was "How can we make ourselves look good to advertise to people on the highway?"

I thought the Baltimore/Wyandotte block would make for a great outdoor amphitheater.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Seriously people. if you live in an apartment next to the plaza it is literally a three block walk to get ALL THE WAY ACROSS the Plaza. FIVE if you want to get from the west to east end. How is adding some apartments in the "actual" Plaza going to improve the built environment? It's already mixed us...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

These are all over downtown San Antonio. Sidewalks were packed this weekend and everyone was riding on the sidewalks (streets are very narrow around the Alamo). Didn't seem to be a big deal having them on the sidewalk, couldn't go very fast anyway with all the people. Everyone using them seemed very...

If they won't take it down the area should be maintained by the owner as a public space/park.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

There were about 20 plus police cars on the way to the airport. At least one at every exit and many with their lights on. Who's flying in? Trump is supposed to be in St Louis today

Anyone with the chops that can build a heat map based on development dollars for the KC metro?

Re: On-going downtown development projects

I really like this map, and although the city has its development tracker that shows the whole city, it would be really nice if this map showed the whole city's development along the existing streetcar route and proposed route. I understand this might be daunting to add all of the projects, but I w...

Don't forget the LA Stadium will be open by then. It can have a temporary capacity of up to 100k people. Got to think it will be the front-runner for the final.

I guess my point was if you're going to make it look like an office building, make it a nice modern office building.

And if you are right on the nose with your comment. Just look at their main campus.

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

I disagree on higher attendance. DT only has 20-40k residents, depending on how you draw the line. So you would be putting a stadium in a low-density area with poor automotive access, relatively speaking. And yes, TSC is in a VERY low population area. But isn't all of KC low-density population? So s...

I'm sure they do make good money, but If they are legit contractors then remember all the overhead that comes with running a company, bonding, insurance, marketing and taxes are no small cost. That's all calculated into the hourly rate.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

It's a long and complicated switchover. I'm not an economist so I don't know how this will play out, or how it has played out in similar scenarios, but it's going to be a bumpy ride. One thing to realize is that many times businesses use these kind of involuntary price increases as new permanent ba...
