Re: Law Building follow up
As I remember it, the building was an impediment to the developer being able to secure financing for a proposed project on the site. The Law Building apparently wasn't an impediment during the time spent clearing the interior and stripping the yellow paint off 25% of the exterior brick . . . . ...

Re: JE Dunn Headquarters
I was just making a point that dunn goes crazy with the cranes. They has six at the IRS. I love the dunn cranes. The more the better. I hope they don't all go into storage when the PAC and West Edge are done. :( J.E. Dunn owns their own tower cranes. Most construction companies don't, and the...

People are capable of observing that a site is under construction and will be open for business soon.
Now, if Sprint Center was there and the rest of the P&L district looked like it did 5 years ago, with no indication or hope that any activity would ever happen, that's a different story.

Re: Strange noise downtown near 7th and Broadway
Anyone in that vicinity know what the loud noise (sounds like a saxaphone or some instrument playing just three notes)? It started last night about 9:00pm and has been going ever since. I had ruled out someone at the loft building where I am at since it was still going this morning..... When I liv...

Re: Fixing Grand
If someone wants to complain about Cordish's design strategies, they should be far more concerned about the freakin huge planters that take up half the width of the sidewalk. If you're walking down the street with your wife, when you arrive at a planter you have to stop and wait for people walking ...

Re: 5-year projection of home values
If you own a house with a spouse / significant other, you should be able to carry the mortgage payment with one income, in case one of you loses your job, which is a realistic threat in today's economy. Each person that owns a home should have enough in savings to cover their expenses for at least s...

Re: KC, Johnson County Facing Landfill Problems
Does Johnson County have a two-bag limit like KCMO? Do they offer curbside recycling pick up? Most houses in my neighborhood will have only one or two bags of trash out on trash day. Most houses fill one recycle bin, and some houses fill two. Getting into the habit of using the recycle bin adds up.

quit making people walk through metal detectors would be the only way...it's really not that bad..I stood in a long line and it took 10 minutes to get through at one event....people that want to see the beginning of an event shouldn't be trying to shove into the arena 5 minutes before that time. I ...

The "pedestrian design problem" is the fact that you have to push a button to cross a street in an urban district.

Re: midnight construction/noise ordinance
Yeah, it's quite loud around the Folger's plant at all hours. I've wondered how the Coffee Lofts and 700 Broadway units facing it deal with the noise. I've noticed the sandblasting late at night when driving past Broadway by the bridge just before crossing by Union Station. I was surprised they wor...

Sidewalks on Truman west of Baltimore might as well be removed, on both sides, because they don't lead anywhere.

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
Has anyone ever heard of mixed use? A lot of what makes a real city work is the idea that you have a bunch of different stuff in close proximity, or even overlapping. The "civic / courts" district already feels detached from downtown. I think any move that helps morph the various "d...

Re: How is the mortgage market meltdown going to affect downtown KC's condo mark
Lower housing prices might indirectly affect the downtown condo market. 1. Lower housing prices make those single-family homes a lot more competitive against condos. There are plenty of people that weigh condo vs. house and decide that you "get more for your money" with a house. Yes, I ...

Re: P&L District: 14th & Baltimore site proposal
Southwest corner 14th & Baltimore (directly south of KCPL building): A butt ugly building abandoned and boarded up. Anybody know what the plans are for this? Seems like an ideal location for a new hotel like the W that we hear talk of. I love how this forum has pages and pages devoted to saving...

Re: P&L District: 12th & Main Site Proposal
It look to me that the west side of the garage is going to have street-level retail/office space in it. It doesn't look like the ramps are extending into that space until the uppermost levels. One thing that caught my eye was the floor, and what looked like a foot-high drop in the floor-level. T...

Re: Architectural Record Blog
The part about Liberty Memorial being "New York spawned" isn't entirely accurate. The original structure, yes, but let's realize that the ENTIRE space of the building below the main observation deck was designed by a local firm, ASAI Architecture. Before the restoration and expansion, th...

Re: Art in the Loop New Project
Unfortunately much of the views to this thing are blocked by the new buildings along 13th between Grand and Walnut. I'm guessing you can still see it from the upper levels of the arena. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people that oppose urban development that "blocks my view," bu...

Re: Downtown Traffic Signal Synchronization
Actually I disagree, in my opinion, Downtown isn't for vehicles, the traffic signals need to accomodate what buses there are and what pedestrians exist in the area. I think you're right in that vehicles shouldn't be the #1 priority, but you can't deny cars exist altogether. The key is to CONTROL v...

Re: Downtown Traffic Signal Synchronization
Signals downtown need to be adjusted to control traffic flow. . . in the burbs its about moving as many cars as fast as possible. Downtown, traffic needs to be made to move efficiently, nothing getting backed up and no one sitting at a light for five minutes, but signals also need to be adjusted to...
