Re: KC to be Hellish Texas-like Wasteland by 2100
It would be funny if the evidence for global warming was caused by surface lots being built up around meteorology stations.

Re: What are some little-known, awesome views of KC?
The view from the new Chouteau Bridge is very nice. Wide shoulders and a gas station (I think it is a gas station) on the north end make for easy access.

Re: AMC coming to Empire, Midland to be restored...
Yes but popcorn is typically more ubiquitous than those elusive Calabi-Yau manifolds, which I suspect manifest themselves less often in these parts. If string theory is correct, the six extra spacetime dimensions (apart from the familiar four) would take the form of a Calabi-Yau manifold, so they w...

Also, on the tour the guy was explaining about that sculpture - if I recall correctly it is meant to resemble something else, of which I can't remember right now, but by coincidence, it reminds many people of popcorn. Anyone can see that it is a Calabi–Yau manifold..... http://images.google.com/ima...

Re: Do you think the message of this picture is obvious or subtle?
Yeah, yeah, Gladstoner took a worthless photo and made it slightly less worthless. Big deal. (Don't take that personally, Tosspot.) That picture still needs ice cream, a smiling dog, Captain McPoopy Pants Snowmobile Jamboree, the original KU logo (upside down, of course), a slightly smaller I-35 ...

Re: ONGOING: The Obama Administration
It's funny that yesterday Fannie and Freddie disclosed that they were going to pay bonuses to top executives. Didn't hear much about that, did we? I find it particularly 'stimulating' that Congress is "investigating" the AIG bonuses, but, for some reason, they have yet to investigate th...

Re: ONGOING: The Obama Administration
And the current bonuses being paid out by AIG are but a very small fraction of those earmarks. Do you think the reaction to the bonuses is overblown? Yes. The bonuses 1) were already contracted to the employees before the bailout, 2) their exemption was deliberately left in the stimulus package (...

Re: New Fault discovered in Eastern Arkansas - Threat to KC area?
The discovery of another fault in the New Madrid area doesn't necessarily increase the threat level. It merely gives a little further insight into some of the finer details. The regional stress acting upon the fault zone, which is what drives the quakes, remains the same. If geologists instead uncov...

Re: Economic Perception
Staying out of the way doesn't buy you votes. The only way to solve this problem is term limits in the house to 3 terms. The House needs to achieve its original purpose which was truely a government body of the people, not professional politicians. Yeah, but good luck with getting congress to fi...

Re: Economic Perception
The government should stay out of the economy as much as possible. A major problem is that the bureaucracies aren't held accountable for failure. In fact, failure often leads to 'success' in the form of increased funding (eg. education). Politicians theoretically are accoutable, but we all know how ...
