Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aside from Zach Grienke I just can't get excited about this team.  Our offense is terrible and our defense is average at best.  Looking at our lineup we have a lot of nice players, but nobody is a guy you build a lineup around.  We have a legit lead off man in Crisp for the first time since Damon, w...

Re: Big 12 Football 2009

The North is going to be wide open.  It is so wide open that old man Bill could knock off a few teams and play spoiler (but they will not be in the mix for the North Title despite Keitzman's best reasoning).  I wouldn't even exclude CU from the title mix.  They had a ton of injuries last year and th...

Re: What Will Save the Suburbs?

I don't think the suburbs are going anywhere much to the disappointment of many pro urban people on this board.  Kansas City has been a suburb centric city since the post war era.  Most Kansas Citians enjoy the good schools, acre of land, safety, lack of diversity, and simplicity of suburbs.  Suburb...

Re: What Will Save the Suburbs?

Good point.  And, back in the 1970s a lot of people probably couldn't imagine American cities would have such a great comeback.  NYC was a bankrupt shit hole back then.   Now, most of Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn are almost impossible to live in without being rich or being able to get by with hu...

Re: Big 12 Football 2009

Congress is having hearings on the BCS system today, with Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) introducing legislation preventing the BCS from marketing itself as a national championship. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4121294 Thoughts? I am very much for a playoff system, although I fail to see why...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

But JLB said the chances of playing for a national championship if ranked outside the top 20 were zero regardless of what you do on the field. Which is it? Do you want to answer for him African-American2Kull? It has become apparent to me that some people on this board refuse to read my posts.  They...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

MU didn't play for the NC because they couldn't beat OU. KU didn't play because they couldn't beat MU. Last time I checked - those things happened on the field. To argue that they didn't have a chance is simply wrong. If they got to #2/#3 - they have only themselves to blame. And the sad thing is -...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

That's nice. But, you said - and I quote - "If you do not start out in the top 10 or 15 your chances at a National Title are virtually zero regardless of what you do on the field." Where is the truth in that statement? Please tell me so I can consider myself "served" - or whatev...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

And your rationalization of preseason polls is pretty piss-poor. In 2007/2008 KU and MU were both unranked preseason. By week eight they were ranked 12/13 respectively. Five weeks later they were ranked 2/3. So, explain to me again how on-field performance doesn't matter? 1)  I never said on the fi...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

KU had something like the 8th youngest team in D1 last season in basketball...and won the Big 12 title outright.  And we lost, barely, to the eventual national runner up in the sweet 16.  Hard to argue that MU had a better season than KU, just because they finished 2 spots ahead in the final poll, ...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

Is this like that time we went to the Orange Bowl and won - but you still had a better season? Whatever helps you sleep at night... (cue Chef with the "we finished 4th, Jaydorks finished 7th - god I miss that). Well we finished higher in the standings in basketball and in football... so yes we...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

I know KU fans are bitterly disappointed that Mizzou had a better season than the Jayhawks, and desperately cannot wait for 2010 to get here to rectify the situation.  However basketball is over and it is now football season.  Let's hold off on the 2009-2010 predictions at least until KU fans realiz...

Re: Big 12 Football 2009

Agreed JLB...but make no mistake about it...Texas is where KU and MU's bread is buttered. No doubt... Mizzou will always build a foundation mostly from Missouri and some Texas kids.  We will fill in with other surrounding states and the occasional grab from a distant state.  Mizzou already has five...

Re: Big 12 Football 2009

Mizzou gets six players drafted, two in the first round.  This was the missing piece for Mizzou recruiting.  Pinkel had done a great job, but it is still difficult when you can't go into a blue chip recruits room and tell him you can get him into the NFL. Talib going in the first round obviously did...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pitching isn't the main problem, it is our offense.  If you are scoring only 4 runs per game on average (this number is inflated by the 12 run outlier in Texas) and leaving runners on base all of the time you are not going to be successful in the American League.  You have to score runs to make the ...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

Still, I'd feel much better about Mizzou if DeWitt would qualify and they picked up an additional big guy or small forward type. Even if DeWitt qualifies I do not see him making much (if any) impact next year.  From the reports I have read he is very raw, but has all of the tools to be a very good ...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

I think our excitement is warranted more than usual.  Not only is this guy a legit top 5 recruit, but he's also coming in when we need another big time scorer.  He's the Rush type wing player who will open things up for Sherron and Cole.  Elijah Johnson is also one of the best guards in this class,...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

Its about that time for Mizzou to go back to being a football school again. When did we stop being a football school?  It's great to be in the top 25 in both sports.  We'll see if Anderson can keep Mizzou basketball in the top 25 on a consistent basis or if he is a one hit wonder like the Fighting ...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

Don't worry - the national media noticed plenty even if JLB is under impressed: Oh, Henry! Kansas is officially loaded Andy Katz http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4089425&name=katz_andy Why should I be impressed?  KU gets McDonald's AA's just about every year.  KU fans are makin...
