Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

Yes, and for the most part they have failed horribly.  Ask Chicago and Dallas how they like there stadiums right now.   I know some Wizards staff monitor here.  Maybe Sam can jump in and offer his take.   Ask, and ye shall receive. For the record, I think I'm the only person on staff who reads it r...

Re: Ward Parkway Center

Without taking this thread off-topic for too long, the short answer is that Dick's inventory is not our decision.  To be honest, adidas has not exactly provided us with great merchandise support over the years, not to mention that the logo hasn't been...particularly appealing.  Some of the jerseys h...

Re: Ward Parkway Center

We (the Wizards, my employer) had a kiosk at Ward Parkway this holiday season, and it certainly out-performed expectations. I think they've found a pretty good shopping mix there.

Re: Hotel at Sports Complex will get $40M makeover

I haven't been over there, but it's good to hear that the place looks good.  That hotel was an embarassment, and, you're right, it was a real gateway.

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

I think it will be busy during sporting events and dead other times. It will probably be much like the area around Truman Sports Complex.  The hotel will be another Adam's Mark. Apparently, you didn't notice the 1.5 million sqft of office space, the Marion-cum-Cerner building across the way, or the...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

Does anybody know if this is still the prefered design of the new complex??? or will they design something diffrent? http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_menu/past_future/pictures/future_stadiums/kansas_city_wizards.shtml There will be a brand new design, though some of the elements (you know, like...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

THey'd lose 35% of their fanbase which is from Mizzery, had they moved to Joco.  But obviously, they'd have picked up that much or more, in new fans out South. Of course, you & I have no idea what the best spot was.  So, it's best to trust ownership, who clearly wanted to go out there.  They're...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

Insight, eh? For one thing, I can assure everyone that the vision is decidedly not big box and strip mall.  I would also warn against taking the drawing in the Star as a concrete layout.  That's the rough outline, but some of the absolute particulars are still flexible...I mean, every project is fle...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

DISCLAIMER: I work for the Wizards, so I would please ask that you take this completely as a "civilian" comment. To refer to Legends as wholly auto-centric is, I think, incorrect.  The main shopping area is certainly a pedestrian mall. Village West, as a whole, is disjointed and auto-centr...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

Staubio was but one of the hundreds in attendance at the Wizards' party this Saturday at the Voodoo Lounge.  At risk of saying an awful pun, it was kickin'. Just as a teaser, he and I (and some other, more interesting people) are working on an educational event about the future of the Wizards specif...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

When do you expect a decision on a permanent site to be made Sam? I know better than to set a date on it.  It's an extremely complicated process...as you all, who follow development, know.  Everyone would be happiest if we announce a site in the next few months, preferably in time to have the stadi...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

Just so you know...I work for the Wizards, and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the Swope Park project.  As for Bannister Mall or any other permanent stadium site...I can't comment in great detail about that, because I'd like to still have a job tomorrow.  It's one of several p...

Re: Does Lawrence consider itself part of KC?

West Lawrence is gross and has zero personality. It may have "lawrence types" living there, but it's not from the same mold. People who attend KU from JoCo or other parts of exurbia are not "Lawrence people" just as people who spend a few years in CoMo from West County are not &...

Re: Does Lawrence consider itself part of KC?

The young people in JOCO feel Lawrence is part of the KC metro. Unabashedly suburban Cedar Creek is very close to Lawrence...around 16 miles away. That's quite a bit closer than to downtown KCMO. Also, as I've said numerous times...many, many, many KU profs and students live in KCMO and Jo Co. It i...

Re: Does Lawrence consider itself part of KC?

I commute to near Ward Parkway Center, and odds are, I'll be commuting to southern KC for many years.  Psychologically, leaving Lawrence for the KC area is extraordinarily unappealing.  Not because I think KC's a hellhole or anything, but the fact is I live in Lawrence, it's home...and it's differen...

Re: New Bus Service on K-10

Anybody try this, know anybody who as tried it or even seen the buses?  I'm very curious to know how it's doing, what types of buses are being used and any feedback from riders.  I would hope they expand this more on the KC end to make it more attractive to more people. They're using modern buses.....
