Re: Downtown Tanners closing?

I was in the basement venue last Saturday night, from 7-10, listening to Vaughan Harrison perform. The place was full, and the intimate yet open nature of the space served it well.

Re: One North Development

Probably to slow traffic Rhetorical question :D - there are other ways to slow traffic. The windy access road decreases pedestrian visibility and wastes space. I'm mainly questioning site planner's tendency to copy / paste suburban concepts. This isn't really design as much as it's arbitrary land m...

Re: Brookside

per the Star FB (i think it was Joyce..), it's 701 E 63rd, - this building: https://42floors.com/images/H4b4e2656c164dbdfdb3e0c91f5e6e4a9aedf99a5B505153OS780x520W0se/517d0c32192407bcf087d66d2bf31a8330852372 Yikes. That looks worse than the "before" picture of 601. I'm sure it will be lovely. I’ll b...

This site is currently empty, save for a couple of mid century apartment buildings ...

Why does that access road wind all over the place? This is a completely flat site.

I wouldn't mind a better version of Tivoli somewhere else. I'd love to see something more like Ragtag in Columbia.
Maybe the old movie theater at 39th and Woodland?

Re: Troost developments

The most pressing issue, at least as far as that site is concerned, is drop off on Troost Avenue. Front door drop off just north of 31st, under this new bridge and just north of a MAX stop, is very precarious. Children and parents exit out of cars in the midst of u-turns and traffic trying to pass t...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The KC Star article is a little misleading - 10% turnout is about average for an April or August ballot in KC, when nothing else is on the ballot. Look at the April election sales tax vote, which passed with voter turnout around 10 percent in Platte, Clay and Cass counties — Jackson County had the h...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

It's never been studied and that hill might be an issue, although it was there when the previous streetcar system was in place. I'm looking for evidence, and it appears 39th Street has never featured a streetcar east of Main. I could be wrong. The 39th Street streetcar line seems to have extended o...

Just call it Mid-Continent International. Name the terminal(s) whatever you like. It doesn't have to be 'Kansas City' anything.

Cheers!

Re: Troost developments

The Native American cultural center is located at 3103-3105 Troost. It is not owned by the Herrons but by a nonprofit called Tycor Community Development Corp. The head of that board recently passed away, so the status of that building is uncertain. If you look at it from a birds' eye view, the back...

Aren't those two apartment buildings used as office space for Sutherlands Lumber Company? I bet you anything this is for a surface parking lot.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I was impressed that it passed by similar percentages in Clay & Platte, too. Apparently this was one issue that the river doesn't divide us on. So who are the 500 people that voted yes on 2 and no on 3? And are there just 11,000 that vote no on everything, no matter what? Had I been able to vote in...

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham

Gilham Road curves to the east at 34th Street, then heads north in an alignment on Cherry for three blocks, to 31st, before heading back west in front of El Torreon. Historically, it continued north to 25th Street and then curved into Pershing. When the flatter alignment was established on Locust fr...

Re: Westport

A signature piece of the 'Plaza Bowl' concept is that the low density, historic center is in a valley. Extending it up the steep hill to the north and into a separate topography is insulting. I can't think of any reason to use this logic, at least from an aesthetic or geographic perspective. Westpor...
