Banning a KCK leecher
Unfortunately, I had to ban a Cyburbia member, apparently from KCK, who was posting images from his Cyburbia Gallery album on other bulletin board threads, but not in the Cyburbia Forums. The user never participated in the bulletin board ... he just dumped images into his album, and hotlinked away. ...

An open letter to Brookside residents
Dear Brookside residents, Yes, you live in a very nice, comfortable neighborhood. A place with plenty of character and charm; a J.C. Nichols classic. However, the first time you tell someone that you're from Brookside, that should be enough. We've also noticed the European-style BKS sticker on the b...

Lowe's Coming to Roeland Park
Good news since I live close to that area. Now if they could only do something with the Mexi-Mart next door, that place is always a dump. Mexi-Mart? Hey ... that's not very sensitive. We Roeland Park residents call it El Mercado de Wal . My rant about the RP wal-mart, which I posted to another bull...

No birds in Kansas City?
It's sunrise on whatt will eventually be a scorching summer day in the Kansas City suburbs. The bedroom window is open a little bit, since it's somewhat cooler at night. The sound coming through the window ... nothing. Excepting the distant rumble of traffic, there are no other sounds. No chirping, ...

Official "what's coming to the speedway?" thread
I just hope that they don't become a redneck super center of sorts, reinforcing one of KCK's negative images. I think NFM certainly helps, and it should be an anchor to draw some businesses that don't appeal to ... uhh, those with a blue collar rural/country cultural orientation. If Ikea ever expand...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
The big problem with downtown Mission, as see it, is that many of the businesses aren't condusive to creating street animation, to use planner's jargon. There are some neat stores there, but they aren't going to generate much pedestrian traffic for Johnson Drive, or make downtown in general a destin...

Country Club Plaza - 4-10-2003
A sampling of photos I snapped yesterday night. More to follow, so this thread isn't bogged down. Not too many peds in these images. I'll post some busier city scenes later on. http://www.cyburbia.org/gallery/data/520/1dsc00646-med.jpg http://www.cyburbia.org/gallery/data/520/1dsc00644-med.jpg http:...

Bass Pro - DOWNTOWN?
Bass Pro would be good for a close-to-downtown attraction; it might entice local businesses to pioneer with locations downtown, and other large national retailers to follow. Bas Pro is considering a location in Buffalo, in the old Memorial Auditorium, at the south end of downtown. It's a perfect loc...

Gutted apartment building ... WTF?
That's the one! Thanks for the rundown.
Implode the puppy. There's historic buildings downtown that are far better candidates for adaptive reuse than this 1970s blight.

Gutted apartment building ... WTF?
Being relatively new to KC, I'm struck by the deporessing sight of a gutted high-rise apartment building just south of I-35 from the River Market area. I couldn't find any information about the building online. Anyone have any details?

Consolidating sub-forums?
A suggestion .... when there's a sub-forum that has few messages, people may be reluctant to post there, fearing that they won't get a response. Also, they might think that messages posted there won't get read as much. I've had more success with bulletin boards that have a small number of very busy ...

Cyburbia Gallery
For quite a while, I've been running an on-line urban photo gallery at http://www.cyburbia.org/gallery/. Anyone can create a photo gallery on Cyburbia, if they're registered Forum users. There's no charge. The big rule: users can't upload personal non-city related photos, although they're tolerated ...

No plan submittal for Garmin yet, formal or pre-app. I'll post something after a formal submittal, when it becomes public information.

Eastern Jackson County's biggest problem???
I'm surprised nobody mentions aesthetics. Blue Springs has new architectural and sign regulations in place, but there's no amortization provisions; development along MO 7 will look gawd-awful for quite a while. From I-70, Grain Valley doesn't look much different than Kingdom City; tons of high-rise ...

BTW, collective urban inferiority complexes. Denver feels inferior to Seattle, Portland, Vancouver and San Francisco. Salt Lake City feels inferior to Denver. El Paso feels inferior to Albuquerque and Tucson, as it should be. Orlando feels inferior to Tampa. Jacksonville feels inferior to Orlando. B...

Some cities don't have much intra-regional insularity. Denver strikes me as one such place; there was no hardcore divisions between those living in Jefferson County, Arapahoe County, Denver proper, Aurora or Adams County. There were some minor demographic differences; Aurora is solidly middle-class,...

I wanna' live in the Northland ...
... but, damnit, I'd have the Commute from Hell. I work in beautiful downtown Olathe. Why live north? Cheap, cheap, cheap real estate; close to downtown; not too far from the Plaza; nice landscape; and it's rapidly losing its "geographically undesirable" label among single professionals. D...
