Re: Real Estate Taxes
The information on the site is correct. I live Kansas City (Clay County) and get two separate tax bills, one from the city and one from the county.

Pine Grove Limited Valley
Anyone know about this development near 96th and 435? My wife and I love the idea of 1+ acre lots while still having a neighborhood community, but there looks to still only be 3 houses built and the place isn't well marketed. Just wondering what the scoop is since I'm pretty sure this developed star...

Re: "KC Strip" Bus Service
Well, looks like this finally came through, but in the form of a trolley system. You find articles on the Star and it has been on the news tonight. From the KC Star: "Some skeptics have questioned whether the system will be successful enough to allow repayment of the loan. But Westport busines...

Re: Melrose Corner (45th and Holly - West Plaza)
They painted a lot of the building today. I still don't see any good info on pricing or floor plans, other than the brief floor plan description on the website.

Melrose Corner (45th and Holly - West Plaza)
Well, after hearing rumors of developments for over a year now, they've started work at the corner of 45th and Holly. Not much info is out yet, but this looks like it will be a nice upgrade to the area. They've already started laying in rock for the front courtyard. http://www.melrosecorner.com ...

Re: Firing your HOA's Management Company
For what's its worth, I'm on the homeowner's board for my condo. We meet once a month with our management company and are involved in all major decisions, such as raising dues, what major projects to take on at the building, and we help in setting and approving the yearly budget. I'd get a copy of...

Re: Homeowner's Insurance for Condo -- Recommendations?
I use state farm and highly recommend them. I just got married and they far beat the rates of my wife's company, American Family, considering the multi line discounts. Thye've also been known to send me dividend checks each year, but I guess that is only on my auto policy.

1. Education. There will be no attracting new businesses or keeping young professionals with kids unless we drastically improve the public school system. Continue to make UMKC a world-class, non commuter class campus. Work with local nonprofits and civic minded big wigs to generate quality high ...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
I've heard from some Westport business leaders that many of the east side bars either don't have or have lost their 3 AM liquor licenses. Hence, when they shut down, the "thug" come over to Westport, which ends up being in that 1-3 AM time range.

Re: "KC Strip" Bus Service
Well good to hear it may be coming true, but I kind of read that it is dependent on getting $500K funding from the city. Or did I mis-read the article?

Re: "KC Strip" Bus Service
so $15 vs $1.25 wouldn't convince them? Again, right or wrong or against logic, I think there's a lot of people that would rather pay $15, which also gets you a bracelet good for the drink specials, and know where they are going than to get on a city bus and not quite be sure if they're on the righ...

Re: "KC Strip" Bus Service
Right or wrong, most people are "scared" of the bus. It's unclear to them where stops are, when to get off, etc. Honestly, I think people are much more likely to get on a bus system like what is proposed than jump on a city bus. I don't use the bus often, but I do at times. It's always...

"KC Strip" Bus Service
Some Westport business leaders and Yellow Cab are trying to set up a bus service that runs on the weekends from Lew's in Waldo, through the Plaza, through Westport, through Martini corner, to Power and Light, and then to Seven. It will run until 3 am so you can ride back to wherever you started ear...

Re: How about this West Plaza condo boom?
I already had a friend who was kicked out of his building, which went condo, and ended up in JoCo. Same situation you all describe...rent in the plaza area is pretty high or so low that it attracts the kind of neighbors you don't want. Faced with that, he jetted across the state line.

Re: How about this West Plaza condo boom?
Too bad private schools are cheaper. That is the way to go if you live in the city. Cheaper? I haven't investigated this much as I don't have children yet, but I'm curious. I assume you still have to pay taxes for the public schools even if using a private school, so how would they be cheaper? ...

"Sluggish" . To few qualified buyers and to many unqualified buyers and to many units-homes etc available in KC Proper for the qualified to chose from. The sub prime debacle and the credit crunch, plus job losses and uncertainties are a major factor. It's not the end of the world but th...
