Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I almost had a collision with a pair of scooters this morning as I turned a corner from 18th onto Baltimore. Two were riding beside each other on the sidewalk and yelled at me to "get the f*** out of the way."

Hope they raise the Nest cam. Now that the structure is going up the overall view of the site is blocked.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

I don't know, but conventional wisdom would put it near the penguins and polar bears if they are wanting to make the Zoo a wintertime destination. Don't want to make people walk any further out in the cold than they have to considering the vast parking lagoons to cross.

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

On the first postcard note the grassy field where now stands Bartle Hall, Barnes Ballroom and the KCPA. The tiny Hereford bldng where Loews is now going up stands out clearly amidst the nothingness.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

The push since the current director came in is to make the Zoo a year round destination, as in Omaha. Will this kill Sea Life at Crown Center?

How could you do bike lanes here? Gillham is only 4 lanes wide where Armour had 6.

Re: Church of the Resurrection Downtown Campus

I was in the Grand Ave Temple over a decade ago with Historic KC. The interior was literally melting. Water infiltration was dissolving the plaster architecture. Its was in worse shape than any building that has been rescued.

Most large metropolitan newspapers have an architectural critic on staff. I don't think the Star has had one for at least a decade.

$100 million aquarium proposed for zoo. $60 mill in private money raised. Ten times the size of the Crown Center aquarium and larger than any in St Louis or Omaha.

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham

Is anything ever going to happen there? Its dragging down the whole neighborhood. Union Hill Founders is below 80% occupancy for the first time ever. The building on the SW corner of 30th & Gillham has only 4 occupied units out of 23 total.

Very tall columns being poured on site of former Hereford building. This will soon become very visible on the south, east, and west skyline.

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

Across the street from Two Light they have added some nice landscaping with extensive plantings in the narrow strip between Truman and 670. As it fills in it will nicely screen off some of the freeway. If this was done to all of the length of 670 in DT it would be a much cheaper alternative to the l...

Lots of dead trees on the Plaza. Looks like new management doesn't care to water. Makes things look even more tired and neglected.

Re: The Gallerie - 27th & Gillham Apartments and Condos

From 27th Terrace & McGee this is going to look like either a modernist hill town or a Soviet apartment block. Not sure. The windows going in are dark framed dark smokey glass. Varied groupings of mostly narrow floor to ceiling in ones, twos or threes. I think this is going to somehow appear ver...
