Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Takes me longer than a minute to walk a block. Even more when waiting at a crossing for light or traffic to clear. If its only 1 and 1/2 blocks between 31st and Linwood, it feels like 2 blocks. There must be a terrace in there?

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

My walking times were my experience. McGee does diagonal north-northwest so it does cut off 1 and 1/2 short blocks when you get to 27th st. Both routes have similar elevation change. If, as you say, that was your walk everyday you would have to go uphill either leaving or coming back. Still, filling...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Bull. I walked it at a brisk pace and timed it . Cannot be the same as to both 27th and 31st. To 31st is one block north and 6 blocks west. 27th is 3 blocks north and the same 6 blocks west. Maybe as the crow flies (if you could cut through the cemetery) but even that does not seem right.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

From the Filling Station at McGee and Gillham it is a 20 minute walk to 27th & Main. To Linwood and Main it is 17.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I'd be willing to chip in if they removed the name of a long defunct auto part and appliance retailer and replaced it with "Kansas City." That way no one would ever have to caption a KC skyline shot again.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

This has a great many residents of Union Hill in a tizzy. I haven't any facts, but I would bet UH had some of the highest voter participation in the district. People feel they got a bait and switch. The petition already has over a hundred names and it will be circulated tomorrow when there is an inv...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The petition is to have a 31st stop in addition not instead of Linwood. Union Hill has more population density than any other neighborhood on the extension route until you get to the Plaza. Back when its renewal began in the eighties it was the only new housing being built between DT and the Plaza. ...

How can one safely walk around it? Everytime I have looked at the webcam I am surprised there have been no auto or pedestrian accidents. Most traffic does not ever come to any type of complete stop and people walk toward the NW corner of the intersection where there is no spot for pedestrians. I agr...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

The Paseo has had that name for over a century. It is the showpiece of all KC boulevards even if the neighborhood is in decline. Since Paseo has a meaning of "walk" and Dr King led many marches, keep the name of Paseo but call it the MLK Paseo, or Martin Luther King Paseo. Its no more of a...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

I recall the Savoy having two dining rooms, the one with the booths, woodwork, and murals, and another that was much more plain. Back in the day the mural/Truman booth room was smoking, the plainer room was non smoking.
