Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Coming out the north entrance of Kauffman Center the meeting/parking structure is massive. Almost like a hulking modern sibling of Municipal Auditorium. It really is too bad that Kaufman Center faces south not north.

Will be razed. Structurally unsound. Completely riddled with termite damage.

Now appearing south of Truman Road: the apocryphal "twin" tower of the Power & Light building as a shimmering reflection.

This is easier to stomach than a Trump tower.

There is a Slovenian church in KCK adjoining Strawberry Hill, although the Slovenes and Croats never liked each other even when they came here.

If the lobby was saved\restored it is a big win. It is a stunner.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The Crowne Plaza at least looks much improved with its recent paint job. There are similar former Holiday Inns all over the country, the one north of the river in Chicago is almost identical. Back on topic, the glass going in the curved section of Loews is quite handsome.

Re: Oak Tower

SW Bell did not own the building then. The reno was done I believe by Alexander Barkett and Civic Plaza National Bank (13th & Oak). Also responsible for the now undone modernization of the Palace at 12th & Grand.

Re: Oak Tower

Thank you LastGentleman for documenting this old grand dame. Its gothic sillhouette was the most evocative and romantic thing on the skyline. It would take so much $$$ to restore this. One of the reasons for the 1970's modernization was supposedly deterioration and failure of the terra cotta claddin...

The Haberdashery bar/grille was in that space. Peanut shells on the floor. Muehlebach is one of the most haunted places in town.

That glass looks very much like the glass in One & Two Light. Hope the masonry parts of the building give it a different look.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

This hotel is sort of an historic property. It was the very first hotel "on" the Plaza. It marks the begining of the transition from neighborhood/upscale shopping and apartment area into a second downtown. There were no hotels on the plaza then, most office was the upstairs of the shops. The John Ha...

Re: Plaza Residential Development

Most people that can afford a half million dollar home insist on at least 2 car garage. Indeed not having a 3 car garage is slumming it. All the new infill single family on Union Hill has 2 car garage. Maybe you are a hoarder but most people do not "just fill half their garage with junk anyway."

Elevator closets AND stairs. No building could have an elevator and no stairs. With curb cuts for 2 car driveways there will be more limited street parking.

Neither rendering shows it, but it would have to have some sort of penthouse element on the roof.

Re: Five Light

A mid block entrance will give direct access to the elevator core. This sorta looks like 5 of D.C.'s Kennedy Center stacked atop one another.
