Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

I have that first b&w photo in a postcard used for retail promotion. In the upper left it says "Kansas City--HARZFELD'S-- Petticoat Lane." In the lower right it says copyright '45 Millard-Hahn.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

It looks awful when the installation isn't perfect. At the hotel at 16th & Baltimore the panels are not all on the same plane and especially at night with the angle of the lighting it looks like the walls are bulging in and out.

The meeting room wing is looking massive. Anyone know the floor heights of the ballrooms?

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Looks good. Sympathetic to Armour, but not a recreation. But is that real hand stacked brick or faux "brick panels?"

The skybridge will be a loss to the historic fabric, It has been there since the Sears days. Over 60 years? Its the KC Bridge of Sighs.

Crowne Plaza is 280'. Do not know what the elevation difference is at 13th & Wyandotte from Truman and Baltimore.

Been to Kimchi twice. Was disappointed in the entrees. However appetizers were excellent. Service good, owner attentive, pleasant space.

Add some speakers and you could have a son et lumiere show like at Chichen Itza, Uxmal, the Pyramids and Karnak temple.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I would not call two curved end walls art deco or streamlined moderne. You can see curved walls on many commercial structures such as department stores on the end of shopping malls.

Judging from the sloppy, bulky and unattractive appearance, I would guess not.

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

Light wells for light and ventilation were common before modern HVAC and lighting. No one wanted an office/desk far from a window. Now due to the former and also desire for larger floor plates these often get filled in. Another example is the old NY Life bldng(catholic diocese).

Metal grid for glass curtain wall "bow" at ne corner going in. Can someone get a photo from the Liberty Memorial? I think that from there this may appear to be 2 buildings instead of one monolith due to the south face of the south wing having heavy masonry element while the south side of the west wi...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

Had a bad dinner the other evening in the Savoy. Started with the bread. I thought the butter was very salty, but it was like a cup of salt was poured into the bread dough. The salad and entree was ok. Then there were the potato wedges. Again so salty my throat nearly constricted along with a weird ...

According to a Business Journal article on endangered buildings the Christian Scientist church is to be torn down and replaced with a 13 story office tower. Would be a loss for the human scale along 47th and create a blocky wall on the north side.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

About that building reno on the ne corner of Cleaver & Main. They took a boring modern building and made it more ugly. It now looks like a postwar housing project. Reminds me of Quality Hill towers.
