Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Reminds me of the old frontier town buildings with the false front upper floor. Reclaiming KC wild west heritage. To bad you cant see it from the KC Live cowboys.

Re: Union Hill Development

No new concept brewing. Just a for rent sign and a complete and ready to go restaurant set up. Probably a great rental deal as developer is desperate to get a tenant.

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

I think the building seen over the shoulder of the KCPL may be the proposed Civic Plaza National Bank that was to be on the site of the current MO Court of Appeals at 13th and Oak.. It was a 52 story tower proposed by Alexander Barkett who was responsible for the "remuddling" of both the SW Bell Oak...

May 21 is the closing day for the Cinemark Palace. Entire complex being shutdown, not retaining space in old
Sears.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

KC Library site has great retrospective of both DT and KCI airports. KCI terminals looked so open and airy with only an open rail(a person could almost walk under) dividing holding areas from concourse.

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

That's not the Concorde, its the American version, the SST that was in development then got shelved since nobody wanted sonic booms all over the land portions of the US.

Re: Plaza Residential Development

I've never seen an apartment complex in urban KC with so many 3 and 4 bedroom units. Seems like an option for families that do not want a house.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Now I "get" the vertical recessed notches in the otherwise plain masonry. At least in that view looking north from 16th & Baltimore it seems to be a clear reference to the lighting in the setbacks of the P&L bldng.

Re: Union Hill Development

Has not been any construction in area in years, unless you are counting Gallerie 2 long blocks away. Almost always street parking available right in front of building. Developer gave both the wine shop and cafe bargain rent just to get spaces occupied.

Its odd that these designs resemble very much the old vacant medical building directly across the street.

Looks like pre-cast stone on south and west matches well with KCPA and limestone of KCPL. Not so crazy about the Darth Vader dark cladding on the north.

There will be a 3 floor setback on the south end, when you see that you will know the summit is at hand.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The mobile crane was used to lift steel roof trusses to the top of the meeting space wing. Since there is no floor above to support, trusses were faster and lesss expensive.
