Re: Olathe Best Buy Closing

Lease issues or not, I'm not surprised Best Buy wants to re-locate to a higher profile, higher traffic location along 119th.

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!

What's my point? It's time that suburbanites in KC learn that "driving all the way downtown" and "Is it safe there?" need to be removed from their psyche. Get out of your cocoon and live a little. It's still crazy to me that people have the viewpoint that people who live in the ...

Help! Lunch TODAY

I need suggestions/recommendations for good lunching spots in the I-35/95th Street corridor. I'll go as far north as 87th and as far south, east and west as 435, Metcalf and Lackman, respectively. I've crisscrossed that area over the years, but you know how it is when you are under the gun to pick a...

I've never known brisket to be inexpensive. Certainly never cheaper than ground beef.

My experience with the portions was the same when we visited the Martin City location a couple of weeks ago. I had the burnt end platter. It was tasty, but skimpier portions than back in the day.

Re: BBQ WARS!

had LC's for the first time since i was young. damn, those burnt ends are pretty good. is it the sauce that's heavy with a worcestershire flavor? at first i thought it was in the bark but had a few bites with no bark and that flavor was still prevalent. It's probably been at least 10 years - probab...

Re: BBQ WARS!

Finally tried the new Plowboys at 12th/Main (was outa town last 4 months). Like the burnt ends and pulled pork and the sides. They shouldn't even bother serving the brisket (though I shouldn't base on one try). Variety of sauces pretty good too. Is good that downtown finally has something above ave...

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

user: warwickland has furnished me with a copy of this recipe, which does look promising. http://www.extraordinarybbq.com/grilled-pork-steaks/ as beloved as pork steaks are in that town, i assumed it was user error on my part and not some fatal flaw intrinsic to the cut. Outstanding read...thanks f...

^^^yes, to all of that, earthling. to embellish your point a bit, my favorite bbq joint is called 'crazy good eats' in olathe. primarily because they began as competition bbq'ers, not as a restaurant, which means they - not unlike your friend - learned how to use temperature, smoke and technique to ...

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

agreed. bbq is as you described - getting it's start from hearty out door types back in the day trying to figure out how to effectively cook tough cuts of meat to the point they were edible.

the method i described isn't authentic, but it's effective...and delicious.

You aren't doing it right, chrizow.

Boil them first, then put them on a hot grill, then transfer them to a big cooker full of maulls to simmer for a while. They will be tender and juicy. If you're like me, you'll want to eat 2 or 3 or more.

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

Awesome. Glad to know my StL source wasn't just trying to make something weird up to see if I'd believe it, haha. :) Chicken and pork steaks are my favorite meats prepared in that manner. Maull's sweet n smoky BBQ sauce from the one gallon glass containers was bomb. I think it's only available in p...
