Re: Who will you vote for Mayor of Kansas City - Mike Burke or Sly James

Mike served on the Council in the 80's...over 20 years ago.  He also was appointed and didn't run for reelection so has no experience actually answering to voters.  Not discounting his service or saying he did a bad job but I think that hardly qualifies him any more than Sly.

Re: Who will you vote for Mayor of Kansas City - Mike Burke or Sly James

Why does someone have to serve on the council first and "pay their dues"?  Sly has been on countless City and County boards, run numerous organizations around town including the KCMBA, and has run his own successful law firm for years.  There will be no learning curve.  Like the Star said,...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race

You all need to look at Sly more.  IMO he is hands down the best choice.  Great cheerleader for the City (which is the most important part of the job in a weak mayor system) and doesn't have the baggage all the other viable candidates have.

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race

Pastense, Sly has been EXTREMELY involved in KC for decades.  Chrizow mentioned his heavy involvement in the Bar Association and other legal community related organizations but his involvement goes well beyond that, including being on the Board of the Genesis School, the board of the LCRA, etc.  Unl...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

That is true...but they essentially need that now.  They aren't going to demo an occupied building without something else approved.  Thus, designation doesn't do much.  Difference of opinion I guess.

And being listed doesn't really protect it at all...just can't utilize government money.

I have 2 tickets to the game Thursday night if you want them.  Wasn't able to make it up there and would hate for them to go to waste.  Just standing room only but free...

Office is going just south of Great Wolf Lodge on the south side of State Avenue. Just north of Chateau Avalon.

Re: Boutique Condos In Freighthouse - Arterra 21

This was the project planned for the old PCB building site at 21st and Wyandotte (just north of Freighthouse Flats) which is now just a big gravel lot.  It was a joing project between Harris and Copaken but the economy killed it.  I think they are trying to figure out what to do with it now.

Re: Westside Local - Restaurant & Beer Garden

I've been a couple of times now and have to say I love the atmosphere of the beer garden.  Friday night I had a great time but 2 of my friends had to wait 45 minutes for their cheese platter and almost an hour for their grilled cheese (we were on a schedule so it did matter for us).  Their wine was ...

Re: Penthouse Key Club

I noticed driving down Grand yesterday that a big yellow awning for this is now up.  I had no idea it was still moving forward.  Didn't look like anything had been done to the Temptations facade though.  Anyone know anything about this?

Re: ONGOING: The Obama Administration

Cool.  Do you have tickets for the Swearing in?  Going to any of the many great concerts over that weekend?  I have a couple of friends in the Senate so I have tickets, but no plans to go to a ball...maybe a free thing at the Ritz Carlton.  Going to some all night concert/rave thing Sunday/Monday a...

Heard this was going rental as well and all buyers were returned their deposit.  DaveKCMO, I know you going to move there....what's up?  Thought it was crazy they were still moving ahead full steam in this market so this would make sense because they continue to work on the building.

Re: Eminent Domain in Missouri

In 2006 the Legislature made a number of changes to the eminent domain law in MO.  One statute that was added was the following that deals with this issue and I think it does a good job of balancing the issues:

Re: Community Improvement Districts

PIEA tax abatement (what most downtown condos have if they have abatement) is an abatement of 100% of the taxes on the improvements.  Therefore, you still pay taxes on the land.

You would think they would be able to just streamline the process via the internet but I guess Municipal Court hasn't found it self in the 21st century yet....or the 20th for that matter.
