Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Williams-Sonoma is slated to close mid-January. I have heard a lot about how the new owners of the plaza wanted to make the plaza more of a high end retailer again but I've yet to see any evidence of that. As much as I didn't like Highwoods, the new owners haven't really seemed to improve things on...

Re: Westport

The U.S. murder rate in the 70s was almost double what it is now. That war on drugs might actually be working! Many people have tied the drop in the murder rate to the US supreme court decision on abortion. If you look at when the murder rate started to decline and how precipitous the decline was, ...

Re: Politics

I'm afraid things that people expect to backfire still won't until people are genuinely hurt by the decisions. Often, that can take a number of years to realize. Right now, the Republicans can do whatever they want because they have constituents more focused on supporting things that aren't liberal...

Re: Westport

New, larger residential projects should be concentrated on Broadway, Main Street, and Linwood. Empty lots and post-WWII building sites should be prioritized first. Maybe provide incentives for replacing empty lots and surface parking with new buildings. Any time a historic building is going to be d...

Favorite Special Occasion Restaurant?

Thought I'd ask this question since we'll soon be in KC to celebrate our anniversary. We've hit Novel, Bristol and Grunauer's in recent years but the KC restaurant scene has changed a lot since we last celebrated the event there (2 years ago) and we were wanting something different. Any ideas?

He'll just deny tweeting that or something, the dude has lost it. Never seen anything quite like the Trump presidency. He pretty much believes the laws of both the nation and common sense do not apply to him. Having both the senate and house (ostensibly) on his side makes it all that much worse. Hi...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Main Site Proposal

The hours were really all Fran's had going for it. The food was edible after a night of boozing. It was a modern day Nichols. Ate their once. Incredible indifference by the service staff. Watched our waiter totally ignore us while he chatted up several waitresses. Took him forever to get to us, foo...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Would expect that wherever Cerner's most common destinations are in Europe that's what we'll see. But otherwise if WoW Air is first, it might be a major tourist destination like London or Paris given they lean as a leisure/tourist airline. And WoW is apparently still considering KCI for 2019. If KC...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I guess I don’t see Frankfurt as any kind of plus. Like you said, it’s not a final destination so would be a stop over to the Middle East or Africa. Of course, you can get non-stops to those places from airports on the east coast. Just a matter of having your layover in Europe or the east coast. Pa...

Re: New Downtown YMCA

Is a YMCA really considered a big "get" for downtown? Are they relevant anymore with the abundance of gym/healthclub offerings that exist? It seems a shame to be demolishing the back 2/3rds of this building along with the entire interior space. Once gone, we will never get this performing...

Re: BBQ WARS!

Another chain BBQ struggles and goes under in KC. How many extant bbq chain restaurants are there in KC (outside of KC chains)? Is there still a Famous Dave's out at the Legends? I guess there will be another Billy Simms in Gardner in 2018. http://www.kansascity.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/c...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

What would be the best European city for a nonstop? I'd prefer Frankfurt given the multitude of connections and the relatively user-friendly nature of the airport (albeit - you will walk). I think I've never deplaned on a A380 or 747 onto the tarmac to await busses but I have at Frankfurt. London w...

Re: Downtown Tanners closing?

Hush sounds like a name for a speakeasy in a Stefon sketch on SNL. "KC's hottest club is "Hush," an intimate basement speakeasy that seats 4,000 people amidst the ruins of crying former businesses associates and over 6,000 conceptual drawings for various iterations of the Garment Hou...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Apparently one of the tax bill's floating around contains a provision that would eliminate the funding mechanism they are planning to use for the new terminal construction. Can anyone shed more light on this?!? Hopefully the senate will shoot down this version of the tax bill. Bonds are targeted be...

Re: Your favorite P&L restaurant, Summer 2017 [RIP Gordon Biersch] edition

Yeah, noticed that a few days ago. “County Road Ice House” is less lawsuit-inviting, I assume. Yea, turns out the one "county line" location in Texas wasn't ok with another restaurant using that name a few states away. Yep - figured that might be the case. I actually thought it was part o...

So when will the Joe's KC hybrid be open in the former Gordon Biersch spot? I will be in KC over Christmas, hoping to eat there.

Yes, the tax plan is an enormous con job: a tax hike on millions of middle class families to finance tax cuts for the wealthiest of the wealthy, for people who earn income passively rather than through active labor, and for corporations (and as an added bonus, the corporate tax cut in practice mean...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

ry bit of what they want from an airport. You are underestimating the size of the KC market. While the STL metro is larger, the market area is not that much larger. It might even be smaller. The CMSA of KC is 2.5 million and the CMSA of StL is 2.9 million. That's only 400k difference and Topeka is ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Now that the single terminal has passed, I am looking at a map of KCI in Google Maps and wondering how they will be able to construct the terminal while keeping operations going seamlessly. It just doesn't look like there is enough space unless they encroach upon KCI logistical support off Paris an...

Just another reason why as a nearly a life long republican, I will never vote for another republican. The party got hijacked by the people with the worst intentions in the US. An all out assault on science and education is now part of the GOP tax plan. They know exactly what they are doing here. htt...
