Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal
I ate at the County Road Ice House while I was in town last month. I was very surprised to see that it was dead on a Friday night at prime time. I would have thought anything associated with Joe's KC would be doing great business. That said, the food was great. Service not so much. Nobody could comp...

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time
Stumbled across this awesome aerial shot https://i.imgur.com/cNx3Csd.jpg The exact same shot today. Note that the houses in the bottom right are still there, as well as the red church at the bottom near the middle https://i.imgur.com/cdOQhEQ.jpg This is a great picture (the top one). It's clear tha...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
We should be able to design buildings that, at the very least, match the quality of pre-war architecture, if not exceed it, but we just don't I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't use the word quality. What you're wanting is the detailing of pre-war architecture. The quality of today's buildings...

Re: OFFICIAL - Embassy Suites (former Federal Reserve)
So what's the plan for the squat fortress-like building just east of the taller portion of the Federal Reserve? Is it part of the renovation?

Re: Fixing KC's lack of downtown parking?
“As we work with developers, we believe the future will need less parking,” AREA Vice President Sean Craven said in a release. “We need to be able to easily convert parking garages to new uses, but we still need to be able to accommodate what employers need today.”
Bold statement for KC.

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd
The Paseo is named after the street in Mexico City that's named after the Mexican struggle to have a modern, liberal (for 1860) government. We renamed a street named after a political struggle for one named for the leader of a political struggle. It's name has nothing to do with the city beautiful ...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd
I was hoping for Troost. It's named after an actual slave holder. And would replace the name of a street that's synonymous with segregation in KC. I don't disagree with anything you guys are saying. I just don't think the goal was to choose a street that needed rebranding - like Troost or Prospect....

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner
There are middle class and luxury houses in KCMO that are in the Center, Lee's Summit, and Raytown school districts. Some are a short drive east of the Cerner campus down Bannister Road. There is also plenty of land to develop for new housing around those neighborhoods. There is also plenty of KCMO...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
So while we bumble around and ultimately will settle for a second rate piece of crap that looks like it belongs in Oklahoma City, Chicago is going to do their new terminal right. Refreshing to see a city that gets it and ultimately is going to prioritize great design and visitor experience. https:/...

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner
The idea that this would get people to move to the area will never happen if the schools don't gain a better reputation. Naive of KC politicians to think this was going to have any impact at all on SE KC. It's too accessible from established suburban housing in Lees Summit and south Johnson County ...

How many employees do they have? Has to be quite a few to fill up a 13 story building.

There aren't any amenities outside security either is the most lol part of kull"s continuing defense of our trash airport. Not to belabor the point but here is some interesting reading on Yelp regarding what the outside world thinks of KCI. There are a few 5 star ratings (very few and mostly from K...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I really liked KC Marketplace. I spent some time there trying out a variety of KC spirits and beers. Nice store. Yes, I agree that Made in KC Marketplace is a hit; better than expected. Nice atmosphere, particularly around Christmas, and the bar area is a surprisingly decent hang-out spot with gues...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Just spent a large amount of time on the Plaza over Christmas. I have to say that I was a bit impressed. Way fewer empty storefronts than expected and much larger crowds in the week preceding Christmas than I remember from last year. That's not to say the mix of stores was optimal (I would have like...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
This is what I read today with regards to timing: The issue that continues to stir up a lot of conversation is the new single terminal at KCI . We recently got a look at the new renderings, but will a groundbreaking happen this month as Edgemoor promises? The airlines are still disputing the nearly ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)
Honestly, I'd like to see the thing replaced. Pretty poor architecture IMO Indeed, the Crowne Plaza (not its original name) embodies poor architecture because the city hired a low-bid architect back in the urban renewal days. Same guy who did all the Missouri state trooper barracks; he tossed in th...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Just had another poor experience at KCI. What a fricking embarrassment to the city, the new airport cannot be finished too soon. When leaving KC, we went to the airport early due to bad weather (rain and snow) and unwisely went through security early to the Alaskan Airlines gate. Restrooms and abso...

Pretty rough right now for Gown Gallery and Affare, surrounded on all sides by construction and scaffolding. Please support them! Done. Had a great meal at Affare while in KC. My first trip there. Great food. It was a Saturday night and the place was about one third full. But it's a very large plac...

Re: Parlor - 1707 Locust
Stopped in on the Thursday before Christmas. The place was packed and we almost left before a table opened up. We were two middle-age adults with 3 millennials. The crowd was very young and we would have felt a bit out of place had it just been my wife and I - although it's a place I'd only really w...
