Re: Kc skyscraper drought about to max depression era droughttt.

^ Right. It's not like KC is trying to keep up with Minneapolis, or Denver or Seattle or Charlotte or even Nashville now. It's the cities you mentioned, plus Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati etc as well, not to mention smaller cities like Des Moines, Omaha, OKC etc. KC is a better city than most o...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Haddad Restaurant Group took it over some time ago and did absolutely nothing but cut costs and ride the coattails of it's former glory. History and name recognition kept them open this long, but without updating this is what happens. Seems like anything Haddad takes over fails at some point. Winst...

I was in there for lunch about a year ago. I think we were the only people in the restaurant in the middle of the lunch hour that day. Our friends said that they had lost a lot of their clientele. The place was very old style.

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

Isn't some of the areas in the SW part of the state seeing growth among the Hispanic Communities. Like Garden City/Dodge City area. Yes, that's largely related to the spread of corporate agricultural practices such as pig farming (especially pig farming in Kansas) that are relatively labor intensiv...

Re: Fixing KC's lack of downtown parking?

I'm all for adding more signs if that works. But I was a suburbanite for years and I didn't need signs to tell me where to park. If they help, great! But I have heard no complaints from suburbanites I know about downtown parking. I've not heard complaints but I've certainly read them. Most of the c...

Re: The Gallerie - 27th & Gillham Apartments and Condos

Only 9 townhomes are now planned. The 'bus barn' on the west side of McGee which was originally to be demolished for a second grouping of townhomes is now planned to be renovated into an indoor/outdoor restaurant space with large garage door openings. They've brought on Hufft architects for this co...

Re: Berlin - Europe

It is amazing how fast they rebuilt cities like Berlin, Frankfurt, and Dresden after WWII, and how much investment was required. They were devastated and in 40 years were rebuilt. It took almost 10 years to clear the rubble alone. Forty years ago was 1978, and KC has blocks all over our central cit...

Re: Slovenia for 7 nights

This August we decided to cash in some airline miles to fly to Europe, the trip starts in Venice but we are completely skipping Venice due to expensive hotel costs and hoards of tourists so we turned our attention to Trieste, Croatia and the Istria Pennisula. We were pumped for Croatia but then out...

Re: Xroads James Beard District

Looking forward to the new MS concept, and still enjoy Extra Virgin. Extremely disappointing that the prominent old corner space will be used for "events". We've gotta be approaching peak "event space" in the xroads, right? Yes, that's very disappointing. I've thought that block...

Re: Berlin - Europe

Berlin is the capital of a large country with a very successful economy so they have the in-place driver to redevelop the city and the situation is probably unique in the world in that way. Unfortunately, KC doesn't have the economic drivers that can produce anything close to the frenzy of activity ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I'm not sure KC is generally open minded to urban diversity enough to have a major transit center near the plaza. I mean, I know people that live in the urban core of the city would be fine with it, but the average person from the suburbs will not like the general element that will come with a tran...

Weren't parts of this building being sold as Condos from the very beginning? I remember looking at units there just after it opened and I seem to remember they were condos. And the penthouse that incorporates each tower at the top has gotten a lot of press through time as a condo.

Re: Proctor & Gamble will close KCK plant

Kansas should have been targeting Proctor and Gamble with Star bonds to keep that factory open at the expense of some other factory some where else. Instead they work on attracting a south KCMO company to move 6 blocks. I'm sad about this - one of KC's old manufacturers is leaving. Couple that with ...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

Kansas scores a victory in the border war that, apparently, isn't over. One of the few they have had lately. http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article198872644.html Instead of offering this company a fortune to move a few blocks (literally), they should have been talking with Procte...
