Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The Colorado Rockies are terrible and people go just because it’s pleasant to be there. Downtown baseball stadiums are great. Now if they can work to integrate this with P&L (pregame and postgame festivities there) and use the added revenue to pay off those bonds while also paying into the stre...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

It's anything but a zero percent chance. Royals are the third smallest media market in the second smallest metro in baseball. There are far more lucrative places the owners could take the franchise and they will do just that if the franchise becomes a drain on their resources. In fact, the only arg...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I'm seeing about 80% negative (no) support online, but the opposition is always the loudest group. It's going to be very tight. I have seen an increase in the Yes Votes speaking out on social media - but they are still in the minority. They commonly get the angry/laughing face as a response though....

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

There are no guarantees the Royals come back to the table in any meaningful way if this vote fails. At least two destinations seeking Major League Baseball have already reached out to the Royals. If the offer is right, they could take it. Zero percent chance. Talked about on here ad nauseum, Royals...

Report: Big 12 pursuing Duke to join the conference https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/report-big-12-pursuing-duke-to-join-the-conference/ar-BB1kwcnY I've seen speculation of another B1G and SEC raid, this time of ACC football programs so I guess this is not so far fetched (although it would im...

https://thinkkc.com/news/blog/thinkkc-blog/2024/03/20/google-announces-data-center-investment-in-kansas-city Official announcement of the $1 billion data center at the Hunt Midwest Business Center “Office and future phases” is interesting. Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I don't know if EV comes back, but I would feel reasonably confident that the Royals end up in JaxCo. I wouldn't say the same about the Chiefs. Why Jackson County? I don't think a non-urban Jackson County park does what the Royals feel like they need. Given the issues with East Village, I don't see...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

related question - if NO prevails, how confident are we that "coming back to the table" will be in KC/Jaxco as opposed to Kansas, Clayco or something like that? Is East Village even an option at this point? I feel like the NO folks assume the team will come back to East Village or some &q...

Re: The Midland Lofts (formerly Midland Office Building)

Wanna hear something wild? The Midland Lofts website says 53 apartments are available of the 135 being built. Already 60% leased if that's the case. Could they open with a 90%+ occupancy number? Are these the P&L District "affordable" units? If so, shows there is a market for that in ...

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

I think Quality Hill is a good model for East Village with the exception that there is almost no pre-existing built environment in East Village remaining and East Village is more assimilated into the downtown street grid than Quality Hill as Broadway provides a natural barrier. East Village is actua...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I remember there was some noise about certain buildings. For example, the President Hotel wasn't originally part of the district and there was some threat that it would be torn down. Cordish stepped up to include it into the project and it's better because of it. Opposition can make for a better en...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Im too young to remember the whole Sprint Center/PNL process. Was it as bad as this one? Hanna Rubber Co was the only / squeakiest if memory serves. threw a fit that they were going to leave the city. They now are by BLVD lol there wasn't really anybody there to complain so not nearly the same situ...

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

Totally agree we have enough space, even in our busiest areas there is plenty of space. We def do not have enough actual retail. This is getting laughable. You now think people will walk less for a baseball game? JFC anything to fill your narrative I guess but people complain to go to Target when t...

Re: Sad...

The renewal shifting east is not because of the highway, other than a lot of people like the freeway access that the nicer areas to the west do not have. The highway was built 30 years ago. Troost has been the division since WWII, and it is not a freeway. It is an organic thing caused because of lo...

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

I could see another quality hill type thing with more ownership possibilities as a great idea. Close enough to everything but far enough away that it isn't on the residents front porch. It doesn't the built environment that Quality Hill started with or Broadway which was commercial enough to offer ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Has anyone seen polling on this location? Like I said I had saw unreleased polling that the East Village vote would have failed. Curious what this one looks like? I haven’t seen the polling data myself but have been told they feel very positive they’ll get a winning (yes) vote right now. Just saw t...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

How the hell did we get this far down the line -- including another round of demolition and displacement in EV itself -- before EV was "suddenly" ruled out? The feds don't control land use and there are lots of federal facilities next to more dangerous things. That also doesn't bode well ...

The reason a lot of those cities overbuild in the first place is because they have macro factors driving booming development during the good times - primarily job and population growth that encourage the types of national (or even international) investment that doesn't exist in the midwest (outside...
