Re: Downtown Tanners closing?

Hush sounds like a name for a speakeasy in a Stefon sketch on SNL. "KC's hottest club is "Hush," an intimate basement speakeasy that seats 4,000 people amidst the ruins of crying former businesses associates and over 6,000 conceptual drawings for various iterations of the Garment Hou...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Apparently one of the tax bill's floating around contains a provision that would eliminate the funding mechanism they are planning to use for the new terminal construction. Can anyone shed more light on this?!? Hopefully the senate will shoot down this version of the tax bill. Bonds are targeted be...

Re: Your favorite P&L restaurant, Summer 2017 [RIP Gordon Biersch] edition

Yeah, noticed that a few days ago. “County Road Ice House” is less lawsuit-inviting, I assume. Yea, turns out the one "county line" location in Texas wasn't ok with another restaurant using that name a few states away. Yep - figured that might be the case. I actually thought it was part o...

Re: Your favorite P&L restaurant, Summer 2017 [RIP Gordon Biersch] edition

So when will the Joe's KC hybrid be open in the former Gordon Biersch spot? I will be in KC over Christmas, hoping to eat there.

Re: Politics

Yes, the tax plan is an enormous con job: a tax hike on millions of middle class families to finance tax cuts for the wealthiest of the wealthy, for people who earn income passively rather than through active labor, and for corporations (and as an added bonus, the corporate tax cut in practice mean...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

ry bit of what they want from an airport. You are underestimating the size of the KC market. While the STL metro is larger, the market area is not that much larger. It might even be smaller. The CMSA of KC is 2.5 million and the CMSA of StL is 2.9 million. That's only 400k difference and Topeka is ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Now that the single terminal has passed, I am looking at a map of KCI in Google Maps and wondering how they will be able to construct the terminal while keeping operations going seamlessly. It just doesn't look like there is enough space unless they encroach upon KCI logistical support off Paris an...

Re: Politics

Just another reason why as a nearly a life long republican, I will never vote for another republican. The party got hijacked by the people with the worst intentions in the US. An all out assault on science and education is now part of the GOP tax plan. They know exactly what they are doing here. htt...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Great to hear that the new terminal is passing in a landslide. I felt that once the stumbling block of how these projects are funded was successfully sold and understood, the project would pass much more easily which it has. Albeit, I was still somewhat concerned. But it's also great that it was a w...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Or Johnson County Executive Airport by making them size of Midway, one in Sanford,FL,Columbia,MO,Rockford,IL and so on. Springfield/Branson Airport size would okay to. I don't doubt that the state of Kansas will try to capitalize on a failed terminal vote in KC if that happens but in any situation, ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

In a mistake I probably won't make again any time soon, I listened to Dan Coffey and Jolie Justus talk about Tuesday's vote on KMBZ. Dan claimed that CFRG's "polling" had the Yes vote at about 55%, but it had "dropped about 3% in the past few days". Given that he painted his own...

Re: Sprint sale rumors again

Sprint and KC get a bit of reprieve as TMobile/Sprint merger talks fall apart. I suspect it's only a matter of time before the next merger rumors pop up.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I'm running across several in Midtown to SKC intending to vote who don't think we need a new terminal, thinking current one is fine. My approach is to explain that it's possibly the worst design in country for being a hub, that we only have 40 something destinations compared to 80+ or more for forw...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Edgemoor is looking at/ is planning to design the terminal so that it can be connected to light rail in the future. This would mean designing everything with room for tracks and a station. He mentioned they would design it so that it could use either rail or BRT. Additionally, Uber and Taxi Drivers...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

KCPT offers an interesting take on the KCI saga. Almost as if it were funded by CFRG or one of their overlords. KCPT did receive a $4million anonymous donation a few years ago to create “a new service focused on news and public affairs storytelling in the digital age” I sat through that. One of the...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Southwest will announce their first direct European flights from Kc. ;) The comments section however is pathetic. As long as the fewest amount of steps it takes to get to gate is the most important criteria, KCI will most likely go unchanged. I think there is a sizeable group of people in KC that j...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Chastain’s efforts led the city to put the 2009 ballot item up with the KCATA. Their plan was better but he did show people wanted rail, it was the funding that was the issue. This is a clear precursor to the TDD efforts. This effort took the lessons learned and came up with a winning method of fin...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Fantastic renovation. But how many apartments could you even fit in the smaller buildings? Two? Those buildings are not much bigger than an average size SF home.
