Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Sites in Independence and Lee’s Summit were pitched. As well as Olathe and DOWNTOWN KC and the Riverfront. Almost surprised to see downtown in there. Amazon would be ideal for the east loop. But really, I think the Cotsco - Home Depot site would be great too. Nice way to erase that urban disaster.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Local news is the worst: http://www.kctv5.com/story/36609995/construction-on-new-kci-terminal-could-be-disrupting-a-grave-site Hoffa? KC Star has another article today about the airport. Very negative. Features Cofran. I don't understand why the Star seeks him out on these issues, the CFRG organiza...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

50th? I never believed Brownback's governing style and tax philosophy would lead to good things, but 50th is literally the worst you can do. Turns out Ayn Rand was an idiot. Obviously Brownback's economic policies were destructive across the board but I wonder how much the "Border War" co...

Re: Westport

Westport is closed for business. Disappointed Jolie Justus went along with the moratorium ordinance. Good for Taylor standing up against it. Might get my vote for mayor because of it. 6 months is pretty meh so the neighborhood can get an idea of what they want to be...and she got street vacations a...

Re: KU-MU rivalry reborn?

They'd have to get an exemption from the NCAA. They're positioning it as a one off charity game for hurricane relief. It wouldn't be a great look for the NCAA to say no. It's on. Well it's on but not on TV. I suspect the no television part is via the NCAA. Still, it's great to see it happen. I am s...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

I love the comments about congestion. The idea that a single apartment complex would create congestion is absurd. Maybe if everyone in the complex routinely left and arrived at exactly the same time it would create a 2 minute traffic jam. I've lived near much larger complexes and their impacts on tr...

2nd and Delaware crane disassembled today. Such a shame. Could it mean a new one will go up in its place? Well, certainly a crane will have to go back up if the project is ever to be finished. But no, I take this as a sign we're in for the long stall. Second time this has happened in recent times i...

KU-MU rivalry reborn?

Kansas and Missouri may be playing each other in an exhibition game this Fall at the Sprint Center. I'd love to see it happen. It's certainly good for KC. If it happens, I hope it's on ESPN or something I can get outside the area - but not sure how that works with NCAA rules around exhibition games....

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

LOL - maybe we should move this thread out of the Downtown Development Discussion. Here's my favorite location. It's a midtown location. Between Gillham and Main and Linwood and 34th terrace. It would be a great location and Amazon would be a huge improvement over what's there now. (albeit traffic m...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

the cardinals have played in a non-downtown stadium for more years than they have ever been downtown, including a non-downtown busch stadium....for decades longer than the royals have even been in kansas city. They've been there over 50 years - not forever but a very long time (and Sportsman Park w...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

"If a motivational speaker at Municipal Auditorium is the worst it gets, then it can't be that bad." It was that traffic for the event along with the morning rush hour traffic. Traffic was more or less at a standstill. Not sure how the traffic was in the NE part of downtown but the west a...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

anecdotally, i hear a lot of people talking about the traffic implications of a downtown stadium. completely ignoring the fact that the vast majority of transit routes terminate downtown from every corner of the region... If there is ever going to be a downtown stadium, especially within the loop, ...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

I would disagree that downtown stadiums are necessarily islands surrounded by parking although One of the best examples is Coors Field in Denver. Going to a Rockies game is a really great experience. Yes, Rockies games are a great experience. However, what exactly is the stadium doing to help downt...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Missouri could undercut any Kansas airport in one day. The state would have to issue the bonds and even then... One of the main points the recent proposals made was that kci has runway infrastructure that other cities would beg for. A Kansas airport is a pipedream. A second airport is not that much...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

It would include a streetcar from downtown. Considering our weather, they'd probably drive the few blocks most of the time anyway. This seems like something we could use to shave 20 years off of development timelines that would fill the gaps. I'm thinking of 18th Street in particular. Downtown is a...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

Arrowhead and Royals Stadium have been at I70/I435 for decades and have totally failed to spur any development in that area outside of the Adams Mark Hotel and a couple of other small hotels. I've always thought spurring development requires a critical mass that the stadiums on there own cannot pro...

I love how replacing a county jail turns into a debate on the death penalty here. The answer is that the jail is disgusting and going to continue to cost money from lawsuits. We need a jail, it's cheaper to build new, so we should build a new one somewhere. /Thread I wonder what further use the bui...
