Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

https://cityscenekc.com/downtown-dazzle-urban-homes-tour-this-saturday/ With the lack of downtown jobs (especially tech type jobs that appeal to younger people) you have to think downtown is reaching that saturation point of those willing to pay more to live downtown AND commute to suburban jobs. T...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

Downtown KC is by far the deadest "feeling" major downtown in the country. It just has almost no city "bustle" what so ever. It hasn't had that vibe since the 20's - 50's when it was a major shopping and entertainment destination for everybody in the metro. There are a few I don't dispute that down...

$2000 a month gets you a $350k home or a 2 bed 2 bath apartment with one parking spot. I think most people would opt for a house. $350k in KC gets you a pretty sweet place.
In the burbs. Not in KC's urban core.

Re: Troost developments

For the record, below is the Star editorial. LOL - it is silly. Bizarre and scary to me that this kind of sentiment is gaining traction in our low-cost, slow-growth midwestern city. A city without a single economic driver powerful enough to incite real gentrification. Our glittering downtown can't ...

I don't get it either. I can see them building on some of the vacant lots around the neighborhood. That would make sense. They have six single parcels that I think would be okay to do the single family houses shown above--or something similar--maybe not the front garage designs, but place the garag...

I read that Thou Mayest is closing is current location next to Grinders. Too bad, I really liked that place. I understand they are moving to another location. Anybody know where? Hopefully they stay in the general area.

The church is old but what’s its significance?
I think the church is aesthetically pleasing. A nice break in the otherwise somewhat bland wall of office buildings on 47th.

2019 Development Projects

With 2018 coming to a close in another 45 or so days, what developments projects are on the plate for 2019? Obviously, there are a number of projects that will continue into 2019 like the Loew's hotel and the developments on Hospital Hill but I am wondering what projects will get started next year. ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I'm actually surprised St. Lukes is building single family houses. I would have expected that the parcels they owned would have been redeveloped as multi-family buildings. For an area that sits between the Plaza and Wesport, the housing stock is pretty dismal and the homes being replaced fall into ...

Could you imagine if Walmart went from being this small retail company to getting involved in all aspects of things related to the internet (Our Lives). There would be outrage. It will be interesting to see if the passage of medical marijuana has an impact on the population growth in MO vs KS. I don't think it will have a massive effect, but I imagine it could be a deciding factor for some people. Do we know if there is a residency requirement for a prescription/card? Or ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

The LaGuardia overhaul is costing 8 billion. 4 billion for the Delta terminal alone. LaGaurdia is the 21st busiest airport in the US with a little less than 2.5X more flights than KC per year (KC is the 40th busiest). KC's 1.something billion dollar terminal seems a proportionately smaller in terms ...

Plans for the Nordstrom have been submitted. It does involved demoing the eastern portion of the garage and Cinemark building. Re: Downtown office vacancy

Yep saw that article from Kevin Collison. Really need some new Class A space downtown for just this type of opportunity. Most firms adding or re-locating jobs don't want to wait 24 months or so for a new tower to be built. Even a 10-15 story office tower would be a good start, anywhere between the ...
