Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List

Earlier I saw a discussion about Cordish picking concepts very carefully and not duplicating any particular styles within the district (with reference to the choice of Rally House in such a prominent location). Made me wonder how two very similar concepts (Flying Saucer and Yard House) are doing jus...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Seems many Midtowners were not particularly interested in the original downtown streetcar line but now that it's running successfully they want it through Midtown. Even those I know who mostly were concerned about property tax increases now want it as long as it's free to ride. Was almost certain t...

Re: Kansas City GO Bond

Points made above apply to some degree. However I was in KCMO city government for quite a few years and involved in budgeting. Of course for many of those years the city has had to contend with the Hancock Amendment. There was much resistance to the idea of asking voters to raise taxes to reduce th...

Re: Kansas City GO Bond

The cities that are seeing success are taking the immediate post war suburbs and allowing tear downs with denser development. Houston is a sprawling city where this is happening close in. My brother lives in a neighborhood where single family homes 8-10 to a block are replaced with 10-20x as many h...

Re: Highways to Boulevards

The long-term outcome would likely be what we see in cities that never bulldozed highways through the urban core, and where it is consequently much less convenient to get from one suburb to another: fewer jobs in the suburbs and more in the center. The trouble is one cannot change the past. What we...

Re: Shanghai trip/photos

Great pictures. I note the haze in the area in all the skyline pictures. Is that just humidity or is it pollution? I hear Beijing can be particularly bad and would not be surprised if Shanghai had similar issues. I've never been to China. Would love to go there and Japan. My company has (and has had...

Re: Great Shot Of KC Skyline

City Hall, looks like. Has to be. That's the only place that will give an end on view of Davis Park like that. Doesn't seem like all to long ago the city over-reacted to a mass shooting somewhere and closed the observation deck fearing a repeat of the University of Texas Tower incident. I am wonder...

Re: OFFICIAL - Corrigan Building

I read something about Corvino's Supper Club in the Corrigan Building in the Star. Has it opened? I see a facebook page but no website for the restaurant. If open, has anyone been there? Of all the new restaurants coming to the area, this one sounded as if it should be among the 2-3 best.

fyi; article where the architect explains the design. http://kcur.org/post/developers-unveil-latest-plans-downtown-kansas-city-convention-hotel#stream/0 I pulled up Google maps and read the description. It appears the hotel may enhance the streetscape to the north, northeast and west but the south ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Here we go again on the city's airport push: Neighborhood listening sessions starting on KCI airport's future This is good. It's a much needed education campaign. The only people having a vested interest in keeping KCI as it is are the extremely insular non flying public, those misinformed about ho...

Did that ridiculous petition about needing a city wide vote to involve the city in streetcar planning get voted on today?? Or is that the next election?

Re: KC needs "yield to pedestrians: state law" signs at every intersection...

I've seen cities make concerted efforts to change driving culture and they often work. Right now, the Seattle area is trying to change the culture around tail-gating by publicizing the obvious dangers and, importantly, targeting the offenders and handing out big fines. Getting drivers to respect ped...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Yeah, that's a downside to KU's loss: their fans were probably less likely to stay downtown after the game, especially if they often visit downtown anyway. I'm not sure how many Oregon fans were downtown, but there's probably a good chance KC's suburbs had more Oregon fans than those that were down...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

There are some very experienced streetcar riders in town this weekend from Oregon - are they showing up on the streetcar? I love having the regional tournament in KC but KU fans don't really do much for the local economy. Most of them already live here. i don't know if you mean the "elite eigh...

Scaffolding was setup on the south side of the building today. Is this project moving forward? Really? I didn't seen anything. They have a lane blocked off, and did some sidewalk repair it looks like, but I haven't seen any worker activity. Maybe you saw some overflow from Pickwick? Or maybe I miss...

Quarterfinals tomorrow against Wyoming. The game will be played at an elevation of 7165'. Hope they had time to acclimate.
