Re: Politics
35% of Americans will support whoever is on their team. It's all about "winning". That's a function of extreme partisan politics. My memory may not be that great when it comes to politics but it seems like that is a relatively recent phenomena. A Trump or Greitens 30 year years ago would ...

Re: Politics
So he maybe took some pictures, did some rapey things, possibly blackmailed a woman and also could have engaged in felony tampering to solicit campaign donations. Sounds downright presidential to me. Absolutely, I'm sure Trump is wondering why he didn't think of political advertisements like these....

Re: KC CityState
Of course they dont want it to happen. its the golden goose. but can they prevent it? Totally out of my legal league here. is it a vote? is it a coup? is it a midnight move out? See California's efforts. What's happening in California will be interesting. The last time part of a state seceded from ...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd
I think it's up to the people who live along it. I bet most of the people who have complained about the name change on the Star's comments, facebook, ect, had never even heard of the paseo before this idea was put forward. Even if they had heard of it, how many years has it been since they were on ...

Re: Politics
Why is no one saying "Rape". Every news report is saying things like "forced non-consensual sex" and "Unwilling sexual encounter". It's Rape. He is being accused of rape. Is this a different story (and woman) than the story around the illicit photographs he allegedly u...

Pretty gnarly looking Wall Cloud very close to the ground over Union Station last night - video on Gary Lezak's FaceBook page. Check it out if you are on FB. Now there's snow in the forecast? WTH is going on there!

Re: Beacon Hill
This was by far the coolest, most interesting part of my last visit to KC. The Beacon Hill neighborhood is finally starting to take off. I can only hope this neighborhood expands to 4-10 times its size in the coming decade or two. New construction especially needs to jump over 71 and start developi...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Seems to me they're shedding quality but old-line stores that played well to my generation (boomers) and are replacing them with, well, fresher options that speak to a younger demographic. I mean, Eddie Bauer was old news even to me. Haven't set foot in one of their stores in years. For example, th...

I think that was Plaza III just deciding to close. Every time I was in that place, albeit it wasn't often, it was damn near empty.

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd
Renaming a street for MLK is a way for politicians and community leaders to pat themselves on the back without actually doing anything. That's why there is a MLK street in every city, not because of any other reason . "The Paseo" is at least unique among american cities. I actually find t...

Re: novel
Old location now closed. Opens at new location on April 6: https://cityscenekc.com/novel-restaurant-opening-new-chapter-in-east-crossroads/ I thought Novel's location was the most quaint in KC. I'm sure the new one will be great too but it's hard to duplicate the setting of the West end place. Hope...

Re: KC's 2018 basketball trio
The NCAA women's tournament has 7 games total in KC with the last two days today and tomorrow https://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/basketball-women/d1 NAIA had 31 games Big 12 had 9 games For a total of 47 tournament games held here this winter. That's extremely impressive. KC has received a lo...

I saw a map the other day of retail mortgage delinquency by metro area for the US. Kansas City was the only major metro with over 25% of its retail mortgages in default or delinquent. Has to be because we overbuilt. We overbuilt because there is no density. Nah, metro KC is no less dense than most ...

Don't think this is going to meet Grid's expectations https://twitter.com/RideKCTransit/status/975156842098778112 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DYhz-ifU8AAaqRD.jpg To be fair, it's a significant upgrade from 10th and Main (which has no indoor waiting area) and is currently a surface lot nestled again...

Re: Capping the Loop
I tend to agree. This is a Cordish thing, if they want it, they should pay for it (mostly). For my bang for the KCMO buck, I'd opt for losing the north trench. I think a mixture of funding sources (like Dallas) would be most appropriate. I think the federal government should at least help fund simi...

Re: Capping the Loop
While this ideal is popular on this forum, I predict that any money the City spends on it won't be popular with many KC residents. When it appeared on FaceBook, there were lots of comments section and nearly everyone of them saying it was a waste of money. Most common response - fix potholes first....

Re: What other cities are doing about affordable housing
Why should the time of purchase mean citizens get a special deal on their taxes to keep them below the market yet be able to benefit from selling their home at market rates? A need-based system is different and isn't just a blanket freeze. "..judiciously freeze taxes on fixed or limited income...

Re: Three Light
Frankly, I think a lot of this pressure on Cordish is because KC has a councilperson that wants to be mayor and is trying to widen their appeal to a larger swath of the city's voters. While that may be partially true, some of us really want to make sure downtown remains economically diverse. I thin...

B12 Tourney 2018
So how is this going this year? Anybody noticing the influx of people into KC for the tourney? I've been talking to a friend who is a UT fan in KC for the first time. He and his family are incredibly impressed with KC. They especially thought the mix of older and newer buildings was interesting as i...
