Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I'm all for pedestrian streets and whatnot, but what would the point be of shutting down Nichols Road? It's already a quiet, low-traffic street with some of the widest, best appointed sidewalks in the city. Yes, it could easily be done, but what do we really gain by keeping out the few cars that me...

Go to the Facebook page "Things and places we loved in Greater KC when we were much younger!" I think the above mentioned parking lot is shown in a picture. There are other things you might be interested in on that page also. That's actually a pretty cool FB page. Thanks for pointing it o...

Re: KC Star building redevelopment

Where is the Star moving to? Hopefully they will stay in DT KC. Will they keep the printing building?

When I read this, I was hoping that McLatchy had sold the Star. No such luck.

Re: OFFICIAL - Corrigan Building

The food is pretty good. There is an Asian influence to most of the dishes. Prices for the small plates are around $8-$25. There are two bigger plates - a black cod for $40 and a Wagyu ribeye for $65, IIRC. Corvino does have a bar menu. I think it is available after 10pm. My wife says the hamburger...

Re: Cities in the future in regards to automation

The most famous example of technological unemployment is in agriculture, which employed more than half of Americans in the 1870s. Over the next six or seven decades, as agricultural production incorporated scientific advances and more and better machinery, output boomed while the sector's employmen...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

private financing polled well, so i'd expect that to be the chosen option -- despite shields' repeated efforts at being the "anti-Sly". I think it polls well because, despite considerable effort to ensure that people are aware that the cost of the airport does not come out of the taxes th...

Re: Anti-rail proposed ordinance

Like I said, I don't know why the opponents feel so threatened except that a lot of people my age (who grew up in the 60's and 70's) sincerely are threatened by progressive urban ideas. I don't understand it - I embrace it. I watched my father become essentially a prisoner of his own suburban home ...

Re: Anti-rail proposed ordinance

I hope you are right FlyingEmber but these things tend to end up in the courts for a long regardless of how legally sound one side's case is. Regardless, I don't think the question should go on the ballot with that wording as it's very misleading. Would it be possible to get a court injunction to st...

Be interested in seeing who takes the Gordon Biersch spot. One of the better locations and after The Bristol, probably my favorite restaurant in the district over the years. Their food is decent and the beer is good. Kind of a small spot though.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

My secret confession is that I enjoy most airports and don't really understand why people complain about flying. Most airports that people complain about I find just fine. KCI really is one of the few I hate. I actually like airports too. And I have spent a lot of time there. I don't mind flying bu...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

What is the council breakdown on support for the airport, anyway? Are there some anti development members who are against a new airport? I watched the public forum they had a few weeks ago and a female member of the city council seemed very anti-new airport as far as I could tell. I think the major...

I was just there a month ago. It was nice. Much nicer than KCI but not all that big. San Francisco is one of favorite large airports in the country.

"the reason we have to vote on it is the State of Missouri Hancock Amendment." Airport bonds, as well as water and sewer bonds (all three types are revenue bonds) were subject to a vote well before Hancock. The city owns and operates the airport and for the city to issue any debt, even de...

Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)

Penn Valley Park in its current form is such a waste of space. The liberty memorial mall is the only part of the park that actually works and the north side of the park is where it borders with the Union Station is the only place where the park is even remotely of seamless with the surrounding area....

Re: We need a new airport!!!

A few weeks ago I commented on a KC Star article about needing a new airport. I mentioned how unsafe it is being able to pull a vehicle up that close to the building/gates. It'd be more unsafe to have a central security area, that anyone could enter, full of hundreds of passengers waiting like duck...
