Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

While they do make it sound like this is definitely going to happen, they don't make it clear as to when. Sometimes I wonder if the streetcar line has been too successful. I'd love to see this built south of Sprint Arena on Grand to fill in some of KC's most high profile surface lots but the streetc...

Re: NFL Draft

Great news for KC but I have to ask, why the hell is the NFL draft such a big deal now? It's like the last thing I'd ever travel to experience.

Eek. This should be a case study for how not to design a hotel. Predicting this will be torn down by 2035. Such a waste.
I hope we don't have to wait that long. :(

The pedestal looks like a WWII era German flak tower.

Re: Politics

I'm not sure what the procedure is in KS for amending the state constitution, but they elected a Dem governor last fall, so they will presumably have a little bit more trouble changing their abortion laws for the next few years. I think your broader point, that women won't want to live in states th...

Re: Politics

I worry about how these laws will backfire. Young people will leave the state. Companies will decide not to locate here. Certain groups will not have conventions in the state. Tourists won't vacation here. Etc. etc. etc. If I were a woman with a college degree, I would probably leave. I am very dis...

Wow. Qdoba's didn't last all that long in Westport. It's an area replete with some high quality local restaurants so not a huge surprise.

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

I wonder how parking income % compares to other airports? I'm sure it's higher. Parking at KCI makes ~50% more than landing fees and airline leases. Airports such as STL don’t own much of their parking and miss out on the revenue. KCI owns both the short term and long term parking. Most airports I'...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Downtown is a hassle. I can walk somewhere quicker than waiting for the toy train to get me there. This has come up before and is provably false with a few exceptions My experience is the train is 3-4x quicker 95% of the time except for 2-3 block distances. Waiting 10 minutes vs a 5 minute walk mak...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

True, but downtown isn't cheap and the point is that KC Millenneals are mostly the ones moving there moreso than other generations, which the income report supports. KC's Millennial median income of recent movers is highest in Midwest, and higher than Denver and Austin. Seems to suggest that KC doe...

Thanks for the pictures. This building doesn't look near as prominent as I thought it would from the south. From the pictures, it looks very prominent looking from downtown towards the south though.

Re: KC metro growth and migration stats

KC is a rare city to have so many single suburbs of over 100k. Even though StL City is still the largest city, it's dwarfed by suburban StL County however, there is a solid chance they merge and StL will become one of the largest cities in the country (and KCMO will become by far the most dangerous...

Re: KC metro growth and migration stats

The 2018 census population estimates were released today. Another good year for KC, but not as good as the previous two years which I think were at around 20k and 22k. MSAs: Kansas City, MO-KS Metro Area +16,392 Lawrence, KS Metro Area +807 St. Joseph, MO-KS Metro Area -108 Topeka, KS Metro Area -5...

Hotel Overbuilding?

https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article229135804.html Article in the KC Star regarding low occupancy rates in KC hotels after the boom in hotel construction. While I expected KC would create a bit of a hotel glut with so many rooms coming on the market at the same time, the KC Star seems to re...

What's the part that still in early construction with the green plywood? Is that the townhomes? It looks like they are south of the main apartment development? I thought they would be across the street on the west side of McGee Trafficway?

NCAA Regional in KC

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback from the fans of various teams in KC for NCAA? So much more in KC than the last time the city hosted an NCAA Regional. KC's regional is very skewed towards teams from the SE (Auburn, Houston, NCar and Kentucky) and I suspect many of the fans have never been ...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

What an uninspiring design. Truly a piece of crap based on the renderings. 2. Most people don’t look at how inspired an airport is, it’s how quickly they can get to the gate. Most people in KC maybe (probably not though). Most people who already complain about the new airport perhaps. I think most ...

Great news. I was half expecting an 11th hour lawsuit from one of KCI's devotees to put the project on ice for a while longer. Glad it's on its way.

True. The council needs to get out of the way and keep personal agendas from retarding everyday normal progress which ultimately results in nothing but good. Canady supposedly voted no on the airport after the FAA blocked her pet projects. Off topic but the council and their community benefit requi...
