Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

I was told at a Kauffman ambassadors event that the triangle was to allow workers onto the roof.

Re: New East African restaurant at 34th and Main

I went two weeks ago for lunch and was pleasantly surprised.  I thought the food was very tasty.  The staff was extremely friendly and the food tasted fresh.  Now, it is probably not a place for a quick business lunch.  Ours lasted easily 1:15 from start to finish, but at the same time I got the fee...

Re: A day in Lawrence

Esquina (the new Krause project), BTW, is wonderful and a great concept.  Kind of what Chipotle really should be.  It would be a perfect addition to the Crossroads, Westport or Brookside.  Would kill to have that happen.

Re: Westside Local - Restaurant & Beer Garden

To be honest, it was kind of confusing.  We told the hostess we wanted to sit outside and she said "hold on, I'll see what we have."  She came back and said told us to wait five minutes and she would clear a spot.    Then again, it may have also been just open-seating or a hybrid of both. ...

Re: Westside Local - Restaurant & Beer Garden

Went last night around 9:30.  Sat in the Beer Garden.  The place was totally packed, which was great to see in Kansas City.  Love that they offer late night dining options.  They are obviously still working out the kinks (they were quickly running out of everything on the menu), but the servers, own...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

Glad to see the stadium has a bit more of a European footprint.  That will go along way to making for a more enjoyable atmosphere -- something the MLS currently struggles with.

I believe the temporary signage is because they have been testing out different colors, fonts and sizes.

Re: Best sandwich in town?

I believe the Mario's daughter owns twenty 20 and the meatball is the same recipe.  In fact, I don't think Mario even owns Mario's anymore.  But that might not be true.

Surpised the meatball at Twenty 20 hasn't been mentioned.

Re: Krause Dining

Krause is now also doing a gourmet burger stand at Dempsey's Bar just off Mass St.  I guess it is going to be run by the sous chef.  I've never been to Dempsey's (think it used to be Rick's Place way back in the day), but will now make a visit the next time I'm in town.

Re: Name ONE thing you would change about KC if you could...

I agree with a lot of things posted.  But there is no going back and changing the horror of urban renewal.    Thus, I would vote with Dangerboy.  The attitude.  I've never lived in a city where the population at large (not this board) so willingly embraced mediocrity and the status quo as it relates...

Take every old building in the West Bottoms, pick them up and fill in every surface parking lot possible from downtown to crown center in the Crossroads.

Coke.  It wasn't until I was 17 or so that I realized people said anything different.  Not saying I'm proud of that.

Re: Fairway BP Station

I would actualy be fine with another gas station -- particularly if it were full service.  But I think a coffee shop would be a great fit for that little shopping area.  Or a Pizza 51-type place.  Something simple, but that adds a sense of community to the Fairway Shops.  The only downside is I'm no...

I'd kill for a latteland there.  Or, better yet, a Filling Station like in Union Hill.

Re: Sprint loses another million customers

Is there still that dead spot by Briarcliff on I-29?

The service and reception may be better.  The problem is, when I left sprint 2 years ago both were awful.  Now I'm on a provider that I have no reason to leave.    I'm sure there are other former Sprint customers in the same position.

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

I don't like to see Morton's go.  But if you had ever been in that place, it was depressing.  No windows, no patrons and it felt like you were dining in a dark hobbit hole.  That did have free steak sandwiches at happy hour that were pretty tasty. Plus, I feel like KC has more than max'd on the upsc...
