Re: Academie Lafayette

a white kid from a high income 2 parent family would probably do well in the KCMOSD, a minority kid from a lower income single parent household might not do any better in Blue Valley or Lees Summit, possibly even worse the LS superintendent probably moved there from the Hickman Mills SD when he got ...

I would guess nuclear family structure, or lack there of, is more likely to have a correlation to grade scores than anything.
many schools serving blue collar areas like Independence have decent but not great test scores

Re: Academie Lafayette

You can't place this issue on an being minority by any means. Minority students in other district are more likely to graduate. If anyone wanted a model for how to educate all students well it's NKC schools. KCPS is absolutely a failure to manage the district. Four year cohort graduation rate NKC: 9...

Re: Academie Lafayette

All of KCPS is within the city limits of Kansas City. (There used to be a small overlap with Independence, but that was resolved by yielding control of those catchments to the Independence School District.) Yielding? There was an election and then a court battle that validated the election. https:/...

Someone should publish a scholarly analysis of the difference in life outcomes for graduates from 1950-2020 from Center High (serves "Greater Brookside" south of 80th street, really Waldo) and those areas of Brookside which did or would have attended Southwest, but limited to those who actually att...

We had the best theater in the city DT with the AMC. Alamo bought it and ruined it. AMC and Cordish had differences Cordish wants young adults and hookup zones and Guy Fiero. That’s not going to reinvigorate DT to the level it should be. It’s proven with their continued vacancies. You have to attra...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

That's a shame. That'll leave only one Cinemark in the whole metro. Can't help but wonder if they'll exit the market entirely. Also can't discount that the theaters got a disproportionate share of blame for the #TeenLoiteringProblem a few years ago. Given that the new owners seem to go for the easi...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Good opportunity to rehab the old Plaza Theater! Only half joking - would love to see it happen if there is even a fraction of the original theater space and architectural detail left. I don't see this as a huge loss - these theaters took up a ton of space and were empty a lot of the time. Also not...

According to this, KS has significantly moved away from being the most GOP state now more towards Indie from 2013 to 2017. MO has increased in Indie identity as well but GOP increased higher than KS. http://ava.prri.org/#politics/2017/States/party/m/US-KS,US-MO http://ava.prri.org/#politics/2013/St...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

I don't know, but conventional wisdom would put it near the penguins and polar bears if they are wanting to make the Zoo a wintertime destination. Don't want to make people walk any further out in the cold than they have to considering the vast parking lagoons to cross. could they bring in heated t...

Just bring back Dillon's already. :D I'm sure there is some part of the deal that Kroger made with Price Chopper that says that Kroger can't build any new stores in JoCo and Price Chopper can't move into Topeka for a certain period of time. Kroger was making no effort to be competitive in JoCo, Jop...
