Re: Dismantling of Great Mall (ongoing)
I was at the city council meeting for the last tax district approval, for a "study and development plan". (I was there for another purpose) But I was trapped so had to listen to it all and read the filings out of interest. It was clearly bogus, a last payday for the owners. Good work if yo...

Re: Bridgeport Church moving into El Torreon Ballroom
I'm more bewildered by the city. It seems that KCMO is trying to improve itself by holding up buyers of property the moment they scent someone who may be worried by a nuisance violation. Which honestly just drives investment away when done with a hammer. And KCMO is hammering. A bit of considered ex...

Re: Taco Republic in Westwood
I went by Taco Republic last week. May try it again in a while, close to my office on Rainbow. But tacos were not particularly good and quite expensive - I had a chicken taco and their "yucutan" pork. Not very tasty, extremely bland. the pork taco was very watery ??? how they managed that ...

hands down answer for good bbq chicken in this town is el pollo rey. I know, I know, not kc-style, but it's definitely smoked and it's delicious. Bring some BBQ sauce and pour it on if you think you must

I like mgsports, I experience his posts as sorta oracle-like. Sometimes inscrutable, but that just means we aren't hooked in to the development dreamtime quite right.

well, maybe if the noise is nestled under the freeway the neighbors won't freak out. I live near there and drive by it weekly at least, those houses are close. And it's johnson county. sorry to be a naysayer, but it seems like trouble to me.

I don't think I would call the Stonewall Inn location "surrounded by industrial and freeways" It's right across the street from a subdivision.grovester wrote:CALLED IT!

Re: Westwood/south KCK development
Interesting. I figured there was something like that happening. Although -- despite OK Joe being there -- it seems like a sort of strange location for anything even slightly hipstery in concept. That's not a high-rent neighborhood or in any way redeveloped/revitalized. On the other hand, who doesn't...

Ooh, forgot - for JoCo residents this is important! El Fogon Deli Taqueria, 10450 Metcalf. It's great, the quesadillas are awesome, tacos are good. the tortillas are fresh, not 100% sure they make them to order but they tasted like it. Saw several people chowing into huge yummy looking tortas. The c...

El Torito II on Central KCK has a great cafe. Their gordita (green, get the chicharron with fresh cheese) is amazing. I've had it a number of times and it's delicious. Crispy, chewy chicharron, it's never been flabby, love it with the little slab of fresh farmer cheese, slightly sweet masa. MMMM. Th...

It was right around the corner from the Mr. Gyros in the same shopping center, and the food there is consistently better, although a different format (take out, fast food). I don't think the difference was enough to support MBFG. I know I only endured three or four meals there, none were too special...
