Re: Uptown Shoppes

Folks on my neighborhood association FB page think it's ridiculous to build a mixed use development like this because they are floundering in places like Austin and on the coasts, leaving 'empty hulls in these luxury developments that nobody can afford to fill.' Other comments were about how the ci...

After the Home2 Suites mess, this is design cannot come as a surprise to anyone.
If Jason and Co. thought 20th Street was dangerous (their justification for the design) imagine how they must feel about Broadway.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

If the city controls the parcel and the shops are mostly vacant, why not demolish and start over? That retail is never going to be hopping because it doesn't address the street in an otherwise walkable neighborhood. A hotel along Broadway will be fine (if done right) but they could improve the reta...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I managed to slip in for a quick tour of Parlor. The finishes are easily twice as nice as any food hall I have seen, or anticipated. The menu's look very appealing. Friday nights after work, this place is going to be slammed..... I am so pleased with the quality of the offerings. Not a dud in the g...

Curious that they've been allowed to now entirely closed 19th Street from Main to Walnut to car traffic. Thankfully the pedestrian detour remains in place.

I mean picklemans has held it since zaina closed.... I'm sure others would have taken it by now.

I thought their food was good when I had the umkc location?
Oh yeah, I mean Pickleman's is fine. But that's about the most I can endorse it.

Hell, I'm happy with anything at this point. Can't believe a prime location like this has just been stagnant for 2.5 years.
Especially considering that Zaina was previously doing a hopping business in the space.

Am I wrong to assume that Shirley is involved in this hotel somehow? She has the garage and the lot to the east, no?

They also talked about how rich / poor flu flopping to/from the suburbs is a hugeeee problem no one sees coming. Not sure I follow this? We're seeing increased evidence of people of means moving into urban areas and pricing out existing residents who are then forced to seek housing in the burbs...b...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

Oh come on, it's fine as a neighborhood and serves a purpose for people there. I have no problem with a drunk, young, sports neighborhood. I just have no faith that KC will pull it off. I see a stadium surrounded by parking lots and garages. Also, Kansas City isn't Chicago. Putting a stadium in the...

Re: 1800 Walnut

Not every building has to have retail, it would be great, but this fits in the neighborhood. All of the short , older buildings in the Crossroads have storefronts. I don't see why every taller, new construction project should have to have multiple storefronts. I hope this gets started soon. It's th...

Re: 1800 Walnut

Thanks for posting the top-down of the ground floor. I agree that it probably could be utilized better but I'm not sure how that could be done without substantial changes to the makeup of the garage structure. As to Two Light, unless I'm missing something (or have a different definition of "active ...

I'm all for downtown-ish baseball, but I'd prefer not have it a block from my house.
NIMBY!
Sigh. In this case I must admit it.

I feel like the negative externalities of 20,000 people a block away 82 days a year would just be a little much.

"But Wrigleyville!" Yeah, I dunno.
