Re: Politics

We don't have the level of confirmed corruption of the Meacham/ Symington era (which was before I was here) but the Arizona state government gives Kansas a run for its money on bad legislation, and not even two months into their terms, the Tea Party governor and Tea Party Superintendent of Public I...

Re: Politics

grovester, I used to work in state government in Arizona when I was much younger. The state legislature was full of wackos. One state senator, who later ran for governor and lost, got pissed because mountain sheep were standing in the road, so he got out of his truck and shot them. They were a prot...

Re: Politics

I have worked as an election judge for over ten years now. One judge I have worked with has been outspoken about the possibility of fraud. Only in general, no specific case. Have had many voters express the desire that a photo ID should be required, afterall that is necessary in a few instances the...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

There are two different but related issues here, the legal and the moral. Where the actions of the prosecutor and his staff legal? Did they go beyond the scope of their legal authority? Did the grand jury members do anything illegal? Was this a legal or illegal process? Yes or no? Could the Governo...

Re: 2014 - 2015 College Football Season

Plus what many are saying a stronger non-conference schedule. I'm an Ohio State alum, and there weren't nothing strong about our non-con. Navy, VA Tech, Kent State. And VA Tech was an L. But Baylor's SMU, Northwestern State (LA), and Buffalo was pretty horrible. TCU's Samford, Minnesota, SMU noncon...

AllThingsKC wrote:But that's my question: If Baylor and TCU both finish 11-1, and Baylor beat TCU, how is TCU the best Big 12 team?
Because TCU's only loss was a three point road loss to one of the best teams in the country, while Baylor's only loss was a two touchdown drubbing to a 7-5 team.

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

That's exactly what this case needed. The public needed to see that the witnesses sucked, not just have Robert McCulloch stand at a podium and lecture them that the witnesses sucked. As I said, the result is probably an acquittal, but this was too important a case not to have a public trial. The pr...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

A local justice system broken enough to spark rioting can't hold one of its own accountable? Guess that depends on one's viewpoint, doesn't it? Would the results last night have been any different if there was a trial and Wilson was not convicted or there was a hung jury? For some there would only ...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

In addition to this (phuqueue' reply) it seems as if the pro Wilson side has taken evidence that could be taken multiple ways and used to to prove that Brown was trying to kill Wilson. Did he try to take the gun? Common sense would dictate that it is unlikely that a 300 pound man would think he woul...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

I have already posted my thoughts on the shooter. No need to go further. Anyway you already feel his side is lying so why reinforce your argument. With regards to Brown being a threat, again that is what the FBI agents and the grand jury will determine when it comes time to file charges or not. And...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

Giving any credence to an anonymous call to a radio talk show and using that to question multiple eyewitness accounts, and to further claim that the perception that he was shot in the back may have been incorrect casts doubt on the rest of their stories is giving more credence to one story over the...

Yeah, I guess witnesses outweigh video evidence. It's not like witnesses can lie or withhold information.
video of the actual shooting, yes. Video of an unrelated event, no.

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

The point is that they aren't relevant and only serve to turn people against Brown as a person. Can't the same be said of the "eye-witnesses" in that they only serve to turn people against Wilson as a person? No. I am willing to accept that he is not guilty if more evidence comes to light...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

I am not giving more credence to one or the other. Just pointing out the weaknesses of the statements given by witnesses. Notice I still haven't given any leeway to the officer since I still do not know why he shot. Evidence? What evidence? Right now there are conflicting stories about what happene...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

Your missing the simpler point. We had 408 people shot to death by police last year. False. I don't know who did what. With regards to what witness saw this and what witness saw that I would assume that will be the job of the FBI to sort out and determine within reason what actually happened. I wil...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

And for some of us there is a valid question whether it is ever legitimate for an officer to unload six rounds into an unarmed citizen, no matter how menacing he may be. There has been one question that I have yet seen an answer to - why did the officer shoot? Was he just pissed off at Brown, did h...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

No, I'm really not sure where you are getting that from what I said unless you (like so many others) are predisposed to assume that the witnesses are lying and that the shooting was justified. The witnesses thought he had been shot in the back because they saw him running, saw shots being fired, saw...

Re: Ferguson, Missouri

Guess that happens as the truth works it way to the surface. You mean when lack of truth works its way to the surface. The media has been quick to believe a badly photoshopped MRI and the account of an anonymous witness who wasn't there over the accounts of several known witnesses who were there, w...

Re: IKEA may be coming to Merriam Village

Merriam Village lands a Hobby Lobby and an unnamed restaurant. http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/blog/morning_call/2014/01/ikea-hobby-lobby-development.html You would think that Hobby Lobby would wait just a couple weeks to find out if the owner is going to have to close all of his stores befor...
