Re: 1914 Main

There's a giant hole in the ground with a large cement structure placed in it. Something sewer related, apparently. Another bartender in the neighborhood and I did a shot of Mezcal last night on the site, to bless it. I'm incredibly excited for this project.

Is the garage entrance via the alley, or from Main via a driveway on the north side of the building?

From the looks of the renderings, it's located in the alley.

Re: 1914 Main

They've had it fenced off for a couple of weeks, and Michael Smith had to relocate his recycling bins and dumpsters...they encroached onto the property slightly in the back alley. So it appears they are very near groundbreaking. Very excited for this project!

Re: Local microdistilleries

Had two glasses of J.Rieger Whiskey on the rocks over dinner at Rieger last Saturday. I was very pleasantly surprised, thought it was delicious. Smooth, with a nice subtle hint of sweetness from the Sherry. Nice sipping whiskey - will be buying a bottle soon. Ah, that makes sense! I didn't know tha...

Re: Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange

We will definitely be adding more recipes for cocktails soon. As for the original Monogram - I have a small 50ml bottle that's sealed, and haven't tried it. I have tried an old bottling of their Rye, and it was really nice considering that it was over 100 years old. But the truth is, it's nearly imp...

The website for J. Rieger & Co. is live! Be sure to scroll through the "Our Story" section. It's a photo gallery showing the timeline of the brand from 1887 to today!

Re: Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange

need to give a shout-out to the rieger, we have had some great food there recently. beef tartare (very classic); "vegetable salad" (which is a deceptively bland description - it was awesome); pasta with rabbit offal (rich and delicious); and more. glad to see the rieger constantly changin...

Re: Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange

Yep. We've got about 15,000 square feet that's currently under construction. Some equipment has already arrived, and the rest should be delivered in the coming weeks. Most of the details are in the article, and are mostly accurate. We will have a couple other products that weren't mentioned coming s...

Great crowd at The Rieger on Friday. I'm not sure what it takes to join or get updates on their events, but it seemed like it was open and welcoming to everyone.

Re: 20th Street Streetscape

Good news, I guess? Seems to be getting delayed with regularity. I'm really looking forward to this; it will make my multiple daily dashes across 20th St. much safer and more enjoyable. Side note - Drivers FLY down 20th with little regard for pedestrians. Lately, the KCPD has set up multiple speed t...

Oh no! I hope that isn't true, and if it is I hope it isn't a bad sign... Unfortunately, it's true...but it is definitely not a sign of any other impending bad news. Nothing but good news from here on out, I promise! We are keeping the option open for bringing lunch back in the future. Most likely ...

I don't really get this move. And I certainly don't get the new label. It looks so fat and Microsoft Publisher-y. http://www.kansascity.com/2013/04/26/4203971/boulevard-brewing-cos-award-winning.html Graphics aside, it's nice to have the "KC" so prominent. beat me to it bobbyhawk! I'm fai...

Re: And here we go again... Midwest Hotel to be demolished

Gotta say I feel a sense of relief hearing this news. Just the idea that something is going to happen with that space is encouraging. I've been looking at that completely decimated building and empty lot for 4 years. It's been a constant source for criminal vagrant activity. So, while I appreciate i...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I think WH gets a bump only because it's visible from the front door of the Kauffman. Apart from (maaaaaybe) Los Tules, what's over there that a 65 year old would walk to? If a restaurant opened immediately south of the KCPA, it would do very well. Instead, the entire south side of 17th is dark by ...

Re: Lidia's

I had lunch at Lidia's on Saturday. We were seated by a window on the north side of the building and had a nice view of Baltimore/downtown. An entrance on that side of the building would be cool. Lunch was good. I actually do enter Jack Stack through the "To Go" door on the North side. Gue...
