Re: Blogs about KC visits
The 2 biggest music acts that have KC origins that have come out in the past in recent years are Tech N9ne and Janelle monae. Sure Monae is based out of ATL but any country act out of here would probably be based in Nashville. Also, I don't count David Cook.

Re: Blogs about KC visits
I think what we can get from this is that KC is a pretty unique US city. In some ways it is like an amalgamation of a lot of small to mid sized cities.

Re: Blogs about KC visits
Anybody who thinks KC has cowboy history or "cowboy culture" as much as Dallas, Fort Worth, Denver or OKC is simply ignorant on the matter and needs to be corrected. One thing that annoys me sometimes is how willing people are in this city to accept the ignorance of outsiders. I see this p...

New (ish?) google street view for KC
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but It appears that there is new google street view for KC. I have always thought that the street view images of KC portrayed the city poorly, but it looks like its been updated! First off, the quality of the images are better. The colors of the ...

Re: "cool" comedy club in the city?
Trust me, the comedy landscape in this country is VASTLY different now than it was 1980-2004. Comedians are finding their niche. Eugene Mirman said more cities shups establish cool, hip clubs because now "every city has an East Village or Brooklyn". (btw he is opening for Andrew Bird at th...

Re: "cool" comedy club in the city?
Well, if he did bring it back to Westport it might be smart of him to bring acts who would appeal to the peopl who live in the area. Bring in comedians who write or have parts on tv shows that are popular with the demographic (parks and rec, 30 rock, various adult swim shows). I hate this term, but ...

Re: "cool" comedy club in the city?
No. It shut down some time ago. Comedy Sports was a chain that was in several cities and a lot of Midwedt comedians from smaller cities go their star at Comedy Sports (KC,Milwuakee, Cleveland) before going to Second City in Chicago.

Re: "cool" comedy club in the city?
Yeah, i'm just thinking, is there a practical reason a place like this wouldn't work here, or is it just that someone with the money has to make it happen? I'm not saying there has to be a great national comedian every other night, but once a week or every two weeks seems doable. Also, I might add, ...

"cool" comedy club in the city?
Why isn't there a comedy club in KC like ACME in Minneapolis, The Laughing Skull in Atlanta, the Comedy Club on State, the Comedy Works in Denver, or the Comedy Attic in Bloomington? A place that pulls quality/fresh acts out of NY and LA (think UCB king of acts). Seems to be a trend that is growing ...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such
I would wager that there are a decent amount of people on either coast that thing Oklahoma City is bigger than KC simply because how great the Thunder are, and how favorable OKC is presented on primetime NBA programs.

Re: Great hoods virtually unknown by metrowide residents
God, I hope that doesn't happen to Columbus Park. I really want to see the Northeast develop in a healthy way that doesn't make it hard for lower-middle class folk to still afford to live there. The Northeast is criminally overlooked by people who are looking to move into the city.

Re: Rankings, lists, and such
But take Northland out of the equation and we look ALOT like Detroit and less like Atlanta in terms of people leaving Vs. coming in. Let's not live in a fantasy world where KC is healthy. It's not.

Re: National Blues Museum (St. Louis)
Any scholar would agree that KC was integral in the evolution of Jazz. The same can't be said for Blues and St. Louis. There isn't even a comparison here. That said, I want the city to have this museum. Just because I think the city is not the top choice for a Blues Museum doesn't mean I don't want ...
