Re: Why tear down a functioning well occupied office building?
Hate to say this, but good riddance to that building. I've delivered inside that building many times. While I admit that it displaces the occupants in there, access is horrible...even with the parking garage in the back.

The building will be completed as planned. No Waddell and Reed, but in due time, a tenant will reside there.

^^^^^^^ Would love to see the former K-Mart site redeveloped. They need another grocery store. Price Chopper shouldn't be the only store in Grandview. Hy-Vee, Aldi, Sun Fresh, etc, could easily take over that whole area.

Re: New Convention Hotel
Personally, I think a taller, skinnier building would be less obstructive than a shorter, wider one. I liked the original design much better. I hate the idea that, after 25 years of trying to land a state of the art convention center hotel, this this the best "cost cutting " design that th...

Re: What "hole" would you fill downtown?
One of my biggest personal eyesores would be imploded and redeveloped. That would be former KC Public Library / KC School District, which borders 12th, McGee, 13th, and Oak Streets. sorry, but it will be renovated. Good news. While I don't like the building or it's design so much, it's still a very...

Re: What "hole" would you fill downtown?
One of my biggest personal eyesores would be imploded and redeveloped. That would be former KC Public Library / KC School District, which borders 12th, McGee, 13th, and Oak Streets. On a 150-200 million dollar budget, I would completely demolish the 10 story building and parking garage, and replace ...

One of the top 10 ugly buildings downtown. I hope this happens 2 other top 10 fugly buildings. 1) Oak Tower 2) Old Federal Reserve (north side) Sorry...Nothing comes even close to the AT&T Long Lines Building!! I've always nicknamed it "the sore thumb of downtown", because that's exac...

Re: On-going downtown development projects
I would be fine if they demolished the old library building at 1301 McGee and put a mixed use development there. There's more than enough room to put up a 35-45 story hotel / condo with a parking garage and more retail /eateries at ground level!! 1301 McGee? Which building are you talking...

So what the hell is going on with Truman's Marketplace??? Still nothing going on.... This was supposed to be completed in 2015...Yet, what businesses are left are still open. Nothing has been started. Is this what I should come to expect with Grandview?

I was feeling the same way, but very happy they're choosing a site that has been depressed for years. I hope they use every bit of space available. I can't wait to see diagrams!!kcmetro wrote:Damn, wish they were building something downtown.

Re: 2013 downtown housing report
The Board of Education Building might go residential at some point, and the former library space could be retail or commercial. I know the City looked at that building at one point, but I don't think they were interested. The old library space probably needs to be completely gutted. . I've been in ...

Actually, there's already an Aldi over off of Troost and Meyer Blvd, across from The Landing. Maybe Walmart can put in a Neighborhood Market. A Hyvee wouldn't be a bad idea, either

Re: Trumans-Marketplace Update
Having grown up in Grandview back in the 70s and 80s, and watching its slow decline, it's great to see new life coming to a shopping area that's been an eyesore for years. Sam's Club will be vacating soon, the current empty storefronts will never attract anything significant. Time to tear it down an...

Re: DreamScape: You're GOD. What Run-Down Neighborhood Would
I would like to create a corridor of mixed development that stretches east of the River Market linking the Columbus Park neighborhood, to the river front west of The John Ashcroft Bridge, and connecting to the East Bottoms. And try to come up with a workable plan to make that neighborhood more appea...
