Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

You would honestly have to convince a lot of city staff that first. I’ve heard a number of relatively seasoned, mid level and higher employees express some pretty negative opinions on the core, streetcar, development in downtown. Then someone should clean house. And, no, I’m not kidding. They drama...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

Also, when it comes to M&A involving KC companies, why does KC, more often than not, wind up on the losing end? Informix goes to CA, Embarq goes to Monroe, Louisiana(!) based Centurytel, Sprint goes to Bellevue. Those are tech companies, but over and over again we see this happen. KC has been bled ...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

"I've asked this a number of times, to a number of different people, but is there actually a hard-and-fast, golden ratio for hotel rooms:convention space?" Unless things have changed over the years there is no golden ratio. There are many factors involved in the decision making process for conventio...

Re: Affordable Housing

Our houses are about the same size: 1025 versus 1045 sq. ft. Mine was built in 1949. Her's in 2009. Her electric bill in winter is more than my gas and electric combined. I keep my house at 74 degrees year-round. She keeps her's cooler in winter because she can't afford to set her thermostat higher...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Why would a small, private school sell land to UMKC when they (Rockhurst) are also burdened with the same lack of available land? Small private colleges like Rockhurst typically have significant endowments and operating budgets and higher tuition than larger public universities. That doesn't mean t...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Doesn’t it not matter since they already have to build a new garage. That underground garage is in terrible shape, has been for years if not decades. It would not be wise to build on top of the existing garage. This is talking about the Kauffman Center garage. I stand corrected. Didn't research com...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

1. You better have a much more robust public transportation system in place than now.
2. And, yes, a parking garage. In reality many more than just one.

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I was very much under the impression that a downtown campus was part of the impetus for the streetcar running to UMKC. BAP certainly is not my pick of sites but, it beats the hell out of 63rd street. It probably still isn't the UMKC master plan now but decades ago they were drawing up plans to expa...

Given the recent attitude of Trump on immigration I have finally figured out what he means by Make American Great Again. He means Make America WHITE again.

Surprised no one picked up on this (from what I can tell). They need to reach financial close. That's for sure. I don't even know if they're still aiming for 30% design. But they need to close. After that they can blame shit on other people, but they're in charge of financing. We need a final agreement and financial close. How can you have a financial clos...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

expanding the gates by 4 didn't cause a year delay. That's insanity. The facility had to be "redesigned" to not just have 4 more gates but also the support structure for 7 more gates and be designed in a way for 15 more to be built. I'm saying that all these factors came together to create a delay ...

Re: Politics

This fall will be an interesting time. Do the GOP candidates start running away from Trump if they are losing their races for the Senate and House? So many have tied themselves to Trump, been in OK and so many of the candidates running for office say a vote for them is a vote for Trump. And with the...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

FWIW, the Kansas City Public Service company started to replace streetcars with "motor buses" in 1933 with an abandonment of an East/West rail line from Troost to Summit along 33rd, 25th and 24th Streets. This was 2 years after abandoning its first line that ran in front of Union Station. In the fut...

Sharing a MO NBA team could address NHL overlap at STL arena. And investors (edit: as well as larger fan base) from both markets could reduce risk. And could help build KC/STL relationships. For a few seasons the Kings had home games both in KC and Omaha. Not conductive at all for the team as a who...
