Re: Highways to Boulevards

"And we change the past all the time - at remarkable scales. Look at German cities rebuilt to their original standards after the war. Go to Dresden and tell me you are not impressed with what was once a pile of rubble." That is not what was meant by changing the past. The past is what got ...

Re: Kansas City GO Bond

The city services I speak of have nothing to do with the sprawl. Was talking about services to the citizens. Of course some of those services were tied to federal and or state grants. Others were tied to trying to appease the different segments of the many communities within the city. Been away from...

Re: Kansas City GO Bond

Points made above apply to some degree. However I was in KCMO city government for quite a few years and involved in budgeting. Of course for many of those years the city has had to contend with the Hancock Amendment. There was much resistance to the idea of asking voters to raise taxes to reduce the...

Re: Kansas City GO Bond

Kansas City, and others, dug the hole a long time ago by not maintaining the infrastructure it had. Instead of raising the taxes that were needed back then to maintain and fix the past councils decided to let those who follow be the bad guys and raise taxes to fix what was needed to be maintained an...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Question. What do you expect the city to do? The property does not belong to the city, it's on ATA property correct? This is solely between ATA and her. The ATA would likely have to take a legal action to remove the encroachment, something it may not be willing to do at this time. Right now it can b...

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

In 1994 when tickets went initially on sale individual games were not available, only all games for a particular city. Had to order by phone and on the first day we kept trying time after time to get through to purchase the tickets and eventually we did. Internet will make that easier. Now, those we...

That bridge was not built by the state but by a private corp. I believe it was built and now operated by The Lake of the Ozarks Community Bridge Transportation Development District.

You go me. What/where is LOTO? Is my belief a belief in an urban legend?
I know the Broadway Bridge was a toll bridge, at one time I believe there was a toll on both ends. But the bridge was a local government build, no state money.

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

You don't get it. The fans don't care about the city the games are in. They care about watching their team play. You could put a Germany game in Wichita and their fans will still buy their tickets. You could put a Brazil game in Midland Texas and it will sell. And you can put a Bulgaria v Greece gam...

Re: Highways to Boulevards

The long-term outcome would likely be what we see in cities that never bulldozed highways through the urban core, and where it is consequently much less convenient to get from one suburb to another: fewer jobs in the suburbs and more in the center. The trouble is one cannot change the past. What we...

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

Selling tickets locally means nothing. Bought tickets to WC games in 94. Only sold over the phone back then and had to buy tickets for the four first round games and one second round game in Chicago (closest to KC), much like any other city. So it is likely in 2026 a person in KC has the same chance...

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

I seriously doubt they would make the necessary modifications to Arrowhead just to host one or two World Cup games. The only way I see it happening is if those necessary modifications were part of an overall updating of the stadium for American Football games.

"Based on that, a council district will be about 81500 in 2021 and the northland would have 1.5 districts."

there are already two whole districts for the Northland, the 1st and 2nd, and part of a third, the 4th.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Turning to airport to the Port Authority wouldn't mean selling it off. Instead of the city operating it like it is done now the airport would be given to another entity to operate. As I said like the zoo and in addition how Kemper Arena was run for a few years.

It would be like turning the zoo over to a private operator. The City has the authority to do it but does it have the will.

Having a death penalty doesn't stop people from killing other people. And how many people come to a complete stop when there is a stop sign or when making a right turn on red? Do people really think signs like this will make that much difference? Even seen people on bicycles fly through red lights a...
