Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

Our friends from the St. Louis area use thin cut prime rib put on the grill frozen, grill for a short time and then smother with Maul's.

Wouldn't that require transferring the airport to them?

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

FWIW. From a friend on Facebook who by the way is an urban type not a suburbanite. From an experience today at lunchtime. "Why is it that every time I take streetcar they are changing shifts!" "And for the third time in two weeks it was faster to walk back from downtown to the market ...

Re: Is Reagan to blame for the downfall of St Louis?

The deregulation of the 1980's can go back to the 70's. It falls on both the Dems and the GOP. For example the trucking industry was deregulated in 1980 with Carter as president. And that could be said is causing the trouble with the Central States Pension Fund now for 100,000's of retirees.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Let's see. Build it on 7th and people can walk across either of the bridges to the City Market. I thought walking across bridges was an obstacle since many complain about the bridges over the south loop.

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

I know I have said this before but you need to go to the Facebook group Things and Places we loved in greater KC when we were much younger. On the previous page there was a picture of a partial layout of the Plaza. Anyway as a follow-up to that some one has posted a picture of proposed street layout...

Re: Does the Plaza need a drastic change or on the right path?

Any one know the space rent for retail on the Plaza? This was not a distressed property when sold so I would assume the new owner is looking for a decent return on investment. And that may mean more of the same. Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

Re: Cities in the future in regards to automation

I think many jobs in general are in danger. Self driving local and over-the-road trucks. Taxis, even Uber. Low level service jobs. Many are already talking about guaranteed income, much like welfare, because of the elimination of jobs. Look at how many factory jobs have been eliminated due to robots...

"my failure to differentiate certain sounds"

Interesting. Never thought of it that way. I also have trouble with similar sounding words which affects some of my speech. Going to Catholic schools I got into trouble a few times saying the Hail Mary prayer. For me it was Hell Mary.

Go to the Facebook page "Things and places we loved in Greater KC when we were much younger!" I think the above mentioned parking lot is shown in a picture. There are other things you might be interested in on that page also.

Forgot about "Extension". Of course that has been dropped now. Guess Extension was used since that portion seems to drop off the ridge and then proceeds to cross Blue River by Holmes to State Line.
Would be interesting to see some of those old maps.

"Airlines are more efficient now than ever. 20 years ago airlines would fly empty planes from point A to B,"

Once flew on a Sunday afternoon leaving KCI to Toronto through Detroit. From KCI to Detroit there were about a dozen passengers so plenty of room to spread out.

Why is Southwest Trafficway also Summit Street? Why do we have Southwest Trafficway and Southwest Blvd? Why do we have Blue Ridge Cut-Off and Blue Ridge? Just curious - does the Southwest Trafficway moniker also include Madison and Bellevue? I've always called it Southwest Trafficway from Ward Park...

Also, I saw old drawings of Union Station that referred to that area as Midtown. When did identifying Midtown starting past 31st St start? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouria I can't remember the exact timing but I think it goes back to the 90's. I believe there were some economic incentive pro...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

FWIW, if the rendering is anything at all of what the project will be then that will definitely be a shame. Being close to the river why not create something like what one might find along an old riverfront. Old warehouse building space converted to restaurants and bars. Throw in a mix of service b...
