Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

Yeah, downtown may have had more workers way back when but public transit was a whole lot better. And more people lived closer to downtown.
Same place but a hell of a different time. Will take a lot of time and money to get back to anything similar with regards to public transit.

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

"And CC is well and truly a part of "downtown" at this point, and I would argue always has been, " The current area that is defined as downtown wasn't all defined as part of downtown back when CC was initially developed. Can't remember all of the details about it and when but it ...

Re: Did section 8 housing kill Bannister Mall?

At one time, much like parts of the KCMOSD, the schools suffered from students having to change schools because of the high rate of moving with the rental housing.
Sante Fe use to be the #1 school, that is 35 or so years ago.

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

The Plaza area probably has had as much negative affect on downtown as JoCo. Disagree. Looking at office space alone, the lifeblood of a CBD, JoCo has created massively more square footage than plaza/midtown and the effect continues to depress the downtown market. Plaza is in no way comparable. Per...

Re: Best and Worst Suburban Downtowns

As I said there is no downtown Raymore or what one might call an old commercial area. Population in 1940 was 207 and it grew to 208 in 1950 so with a population that size and being so close to Belton I doubt there was little commercial development in the little town. A little history of the city. &q...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

I have a complex question and I'm not sure anyone can answer it but...uh...why is every KC-based developer completely fucking brain dead? Conservative local banks and people with $$$...when developers say they are responding to the "market", they mean banks But the answer is more complex ...

Re: Best and Worst Suburban Downtowns

Raymore from what I can tell never had what one might call a downtown area or a "Main" street. Yes, it was a farm community but it was close to Belton and the old RG airport. In a way one might have called it a suburb of Belton. There is still a large amount of acreage being farmed on the ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Hot take: the people complaining about walking more than a couple hundred feet might be the ones who really need to walk a bit extra anyways. I'm always very disappointed how many steps my fit bit records after most walks through American airports. I get more steps at Cotsco on a regular basis - fa...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I don't have a stake in this topic since I am no longer a KC resident but I can share my recent experiences with KCI and Las Vegas. Left KC on Sunday. Experience wasn't bad. The secured wait area for the Southwest was crowded even for the size of the aircraft being used. Would hate to see what would...

Came across this article. Bannister Mall is mentioned just because of Cerner going there now. http://kcur.org/post/heres-how-hickman-mills-became-forgotten-community-kansas-city#stream/0 "Starting in the 1990s, Hickman Mills became a forgotten community. Middle-income families moved out. Blight...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I know, there will be public oversight, my main concern is how much of a mark-up there will be to cover private construction loan interest and general conditions. And by mark-up, I mean 'less money to spend on nice stuff.' As I understand the process yes there would be a higher interest cost but th...

Re: Do you have or plan to get Google Fiber?

It seems Google is holding off some rollouts until they determine plans for fixed wireless rollout. There's no apparent reasoning with the pace/locations as they still are expanding Raymore and other burbs. Not 100% sure but I think the Raymore expansion has ceased for now. Haven't seen any work be...

Re: Politics

Watergate took two years for Nixon to resign. And it took a damaging tape release to take the GOP members to back impeachment efforts. My take, unless a smoking gun materializes beforehand, is the GOP stays with Trump until he becomes an election liability next year. That is if he does become one. T...

Guns are an issue. How many people, houses, and cars can I shoot up going down a street with a gun or two, or more? Now, going down the same street how many cars, houses, and people can I hurt with knives? I'm not about taking guns away but let's face it do we need people carrying around assault rif...

The TDD becomes the taxing authority, not the KCATA though.

But if I were asked to vote on anything having to do with a new terminal today, I would vote no in a heartbeat, for the sole reason that I will always oppose the agenda of politicians and civic leaders whose instincts are to get things done by dissembling and back-room dealing. Like was done to bui...
