Re: Perkins closing

I read that when Marie Callendars closed, it was very abrupt and people who were dining were told to get up and leave right away.

Re: Seattle and Portland trip

hmmm...i've been doing touristy stuff lately, i visited the Empire State Building observation deck for instance - - being open air, it rules. I went to the upper observation area which is more $ and is enclosed, and it was rather MEH. anyone have any opinions regarding the Columbia Center vs Space ...

I've always wanted to take the underground Seattle tour.  It's supposed to be very interesting.

You probably don't have time, but I love visiting the San Juan Islands.

Re: NE Side

Historically, immigrants, when moving to the US, have congregated where others from their countries of origin live.  One example is the Croatians who lived on Strawberry Hill in KCK.  And 19th century NYC was filled with ethnic enclaves.  Both San Francisco and Oakland still have Chinatowns.  And so...

Absolutely go to the DMV website to be sure you have all the necessary forms.

Also, if you are a AAA member, you can go there to register your car.

I was sitting on my couch on around 7:30pm on May 21 in the SF Bay Area and there was a small earthquake.  Coincidence?

Re: The KCMO School District

I think the problem with that manner of viewing our education woes is that "satisfaction" does not reflect the public's ability to assess the education system.  Many evaluate it based upon their experience growing up rather than based on the higher standards imposed upon new generations of students...

Re: Loose Park vs. Penn Valley Park

Also need an attraction like the rose garden at Loose. Get some weddings in there. The view would be spectacular. You would need a pavilion, preferably something that could be a four season space. I'm thinking of the Worlds Fair pavilion in Forest park. My nephew got married in the botanical garden...

Re: The KCMO School District

Bad as school lunches are, it may be the only reasonably decent food poor kids get.  And there is a breakfast program for poor kids as well.  And it's free.

Re: The KCMO School District

I'm currently watching The Wire on DirectTV.  I missed it on HBO (too cheap).  They are currently showing the season on education in Baltimore.  I know it's exaggerated for dramatic reasons, but the series creator was a reporter for the Baltimore Sun.  Often the problem is not with the individual sc...

Re: Loose Park vs. Penn Valley Park

Parks, like the pictures shown of old PVP, were important urban amenities in the 19th & early 20th century. People didn't have the means to travel, so they were a way to spend time in an non-urban environment located within the city.

Re: Loose Park vs. Penn Valley Park

PVP would need amenities to draw people and it needs to be safe.  There is a regional park in the hills behind Berkeley CA.  Mostly hills, but attractions in the flat areas.  Playground, a 'little farm' with animals for kids to see, an environmental center, early 20th century merry-go-round, steam t...

The money that Florida rejected is being redistributed to other states.  My daughter was looking into taking the Acela from DC to NYC, but it's cheaper to fly.  I looked into booking some travelers on the train from DC to Boston, but the schedule didn't work and it took forever.  I'm a big supporter...

Re: The KCMO School District

If you can communicate your ideas clearly it shouldn't matter if your spelling is a little off. I know that people's brains are wired in different ways - spelling can be a problem.  When I was in school, we had to memorize addition, subtraction, etc. I can remember mimeographed sheets that were tim...
