Re: Everest in Midtown?

I think it would be great to have Everest--it will be nice to have a lower bill than Time Warner--but I think we're locked into a 15 month contract with Everest anyway.

Re: hyde park: believe the hype?

Yeah, it will be about 1500-1700. We just need 8 feet of redone support beam and new posts. They might pour a little new concrete too. We've only had about 2 estimates, maybe it will be different when they actually start doing it.

Re: hyde park: believe the hype?

well, I guess we found a guy who will help us with our primary support beam. It needs to be entirely redone--and it's holding up the house, but starting to sag. It's going to be about 1500. As far as the smaller projects go, we'd like to put in a new vanity in our third floor bathroom and retile the...

Re: My New House, Restoration and such

I love this thread. Your basement looks like ours, so knowing this stuff is really helpful for our house in Hyde Park. I'm having a remodeling company to come look at our basement on Friday, but I think that the guy will be kinda a jerk and will cost a pretty penny.

I dont know if I can go to the Oak Park mall anymore. I think carrying my coach bag would make me a big target for stuff like this.

Re: hyde park: believe the hype?

The only problem that I'm having with Hyde Park is finding a contractor for my house. I called a remodeling company last night and was rejected because the projects I have are too small. I've called some smaller contractors, but they are so busy--6-12 weeks--and they don't always call back for the w...

Re: hyde park: believe the hype?

any south hyde parkers out there enjoy the companionship of the nice ladies who work the corner of 45th and troost?  it warms the heart when they surreptitiously wave or, more boldly, actually run (barefoot) towards your vehicle trying to flag you down!  sigh, i feel like i am finally part of somet...

Re: RIP: Sharper Image (Plaza)

They filed for bankruptcy. Nothing too necessary there. I feel bad for the store, it was a good plaza feature, but just too expensive for the commoner.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't know what to say... so I just said that I barely noticed what race little kids were these days.

Re: If someone wants to live in a vibrant big city, should he/she move to KC?

I'm from Iowa so KC is a lot more exciting than DSM. However, DSM is making a lot of changes and if I wanted safety+fun, I think that DSM isn't bad. The things that I love about KC are the architecture and the art scene. We took a guy from San Fransisco to First Fridays and he said that First Friday...

Re: "Bodies Revealed" Exhibit Coming to Union Station in February 2008

The Vegas display is very cool.  This is actually a great exhibit for KC, but it's Downtown so most of the metro will be fearful of the unattested perception of crime and won't visit the exhibit.  Sad but true. Hahaha. I went with a coworker who livesin the Northland. She said she had no idea where...

Re: Buyer's Agent

We bought our house without an agent. I know a house is a lot different, but I thought we would be OK. It was in our price range and exactly where we wanted to live. I was so, so, so naive and will never do something that dumb again. Young, dumb, and stuck.  Please, don't do that to yourself. You ca...

Re: Walk Score - How walkable is your house?

Man, my walk score picks up the Tivoli theatre, but NONE of the places in westport, Bunker, Antique store, all of those restaurants. It's not picking up the Nelson, either.

It's too bad, because I know my area is really walkable and that it would show up well when/if I decide to sell my house.

I got a 54-Hyde Park.

Guess that's bad, but I walk about 2-3 miles and it looks like this only calculates w/in about 1 mile.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

I went to P&L and it was sooo crowded and I didn't feel like waiting in line for 2 hours--so we went back to harry's. Harry's is a great bar. I think P&L will do great things for downtown, but I dont feel like I have to dress to the 9s to go out.

Re: hyde park: believe the hype?

haha.  thanks!  i will do my best to make my little corner of hyde park just a little bit more snarky.  Heyhey-- We live in S. Hyde Park too, just moved in last year. And I think that if people like you and the rest of us participate, we *can* make this place really rejuvenate. It just takes some p...
