Re: High Speed Rail - someday?

good summary Dave and was hoping to solicit your input/expertise as the transit fanatic(?) it seems you are. Agreed a 110+MPH, reliable, and 2x+/day scenario could be widely used and begin to be competitive with air travel, especially on shorter routes where TSA(ingress/egress) hassles add hours to ...

Re: High Speed Rail - someday?

I dont buy the legal/cost RoW issue. I used to take out almond (amond to CA folk) trees for drilling and charge was per tree based on county-assessor costs. very fair. then think about how Ike mandated interstates. at some point it has to be the same, some will lose ground but that's the role of the...

High Speed Rail - someday?

Someone in the know tell me a story about how, where and when this will happen in the US and KC. See fits and starts in East Coast and Texas line but no large scale Eisenhower-type initiative. Always thought that is what Obama should have enacted as a recovery plan. When the Chinese put their mind()...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Yes, I'll scope those out. have really already designed these next 7 units along Wyandotte so we have a motivation to bring in that diversity. May know within 2-3 months. Just didnt want to drag anyone out any longer on anticipation. Messy infill due to parking requirements - of course. We are oppo...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

The parking requirements are in the way of the master plan I assume since the rowhouses have their own parking. Did we not get rid of parking minimums in RM? Any help the public can bring (calls, emails, etc) to whomever....let us know. Kudos and very apprecriated. Oddly it is not the public nor ci...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

...because of the density requirements. Crazily enough, though there are no density limits in the loop, Reg Industries (OF COURSE) counts those licenses against RM because they're within the radius. So it sort of fucks RM, so to speak. They do count those, but they are expressly exempt from both in...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Hey I get noticed on certain posts...happy to answer questions. We pulled the townhomes sign (ugly) b/c of lingering uncertainty with the master plan. 50/50 says it might be back. Certainly have demand. the corner lot sign was Chris Sally - office bldg - and too small of parcel really for that. Uncl...

I wanted to have an official post to thank the posters and moderators of kcrag. Many of you have been instrumental to the success and renaissance of Kansas City. Seeing Kansas City change and regain population has been amazing. Downtown feels like an entirely new city, many places are bustling that...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Autonomous mass transit may save the day and for KC it might be a good thing to be late again. Streetrain sans rails on preset routes are easy for AI and of course flexible to change route based on demographics, daily events (games, festivals, etc). Worth considering. China already using this. https...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Some interesting thoughts here. I think streetcar extension to UMKC, if it remains free, will be a game changer, despite concerns about traffic/trip length. It makes the existing line exponentially more valuable, connects the two densest job and investment centers in the region and runs directly th...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I see the plaza extension way higher priority. It makes the current line infinitely more useful. Past that I totally agree need to be looking more regionally and commuter focused... Which is what the rock island plan is about....the other side of the metro doesn't appear to be interested in commute...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Okay somewhat agree and perhaps my comment was more slanted towards prioritization vs yes/no. Seems to me the first line solved the intended need plus proved the concept of investment along a line will occur - duh. But I am NOT seeing a conversation or hear chatter on commuters and given recent disc...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Okay i've had it. the extension is just flat a bad idea based on the success of a good idea and what better way to ruin both then throwing money at a low density, sketchy concept that doesnt intersect anything useful. Who is going to use it? Not plaza patrons. UM CK will take uber to CBD amenities b...

Re: How Kansas City got its' name

First the Town of Kansas in RM, then City. Even Columbus Park area was called East Town of Kansas.
Delaware Street of course named after the tribe that had been relocated right across the Kansa.
