Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Cordish got the same result because the architects were all given the same parameters and told to make them look like a family of buildings. If you are given the same canvas and paint as another artist, and told to make your painting look like it is from the same collection, it will look pretty simi...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Shields is trying to get the scooter tax revenue put into the new affordable housing fund.

It wouldn't go far towards affordale housing, but it does keep the money from being used for mobility lanes.

Re: 2019 Mayor/Council Elections

I’m sure and not surprised. But, we have the choice not to participate in someone else’s pathetic life. People like Scott Wagner, who questioned Kander's motivations in a statement today. I know I joked about it, but that's actually pretty disgusting. [/quote Wow, link to what Wagner said? “If the ...

Re: 2019 Mayor/Council Elections

Some internet commenter is probably already screaming about this being a deep state conspiracy to elect Jolie Justus empress of Kansas City. I’m sure and not surprised. But, we have the choice not to participate in someone else’s pathetic life. People like Scott Wagner, who questioned Kander's moti...

Re: 2019 Mayor/Council Elections

Can we at least take a minute before talking about the political ramifications of an, obviuously, very tough decision by Jason? Hello time traveller, welcome to the cruel, unforgiving battleground that is politics in 2018. I very much recommend that you return to the undoubtedly more civilized time...

Re: Parlor - 1707 Locust

ETA: I also don't think it's fair for them to ask for tips prior to them actually delivering the food. At Parlor, you have to pay/tip as you order. So, in essence, it's more of a "good faith donation" than a "tip." A "good faith donation" is just a fancy term for a bribe, which is probably just as ...

Re: Parlor - 1707 Locust

Another quibble I have is related to tipping. This isn't just a Parlor thing, tipping for counter service has now become an industry wide thing. Why am I being prompted to tip for counter service? Worse at Parlor because suggested tips on the register start at 20% and go to 30%. What service am I r...

Re: 1800 Walnut

Vancouver has a lot of larger apartment buildings especially in the less commercial part of their downtown that have apartments or condos on the ground floor that open directly to the street (higher levels have their own entrance) Is there something in the US zoning code that prevents this? It usua...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

A cargo bike would work well to pick up scooters, and it wouldn't take that long to break even, depending on the cost of the bike. I bet you could fit 10 scooters at least on it, so- 2000(10*$3)=66 days. Making two trips a day and mixing some limes in there would have it down under a month. Not bad,...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

The Star article now has a new rendering that is superimposed onto a streetview image that I can't be bothered to post. I think this is about as good as we are going to get, since the Uptown has to retain most of its parking during construction. I agree that the hotel is likely vaporware.

Re: "Tower East"

Names like that can take, and last for decades. I like Martini Corner because it came from something specific locally as opposed to calling a neighborhood "The East Village," and sort of stealing it from another city for place-making purposes. What is called "The East Village" neighborhood here was...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

^ Thanks for the redundancy but that wasn't a part of the discussion in the thread RE: YJ's. A million Kansas Citians including every single news "reporter" stupidly refer to anything east of Troost as the "East Side." Old School KC's know that the "East Side" was always Truman Rd to 31st St and Ja...

Why did they build such a big garage, and place the tower on top of it, when the hotel's location is suburban and there is so much land around it?

To match the ridiculously overbuilt interchange, duh.

Re: KC in TV and Movies

I don't know for sure, but outside of establishing shots of Kelly's and possibly a few other locales I don't think M&E ever actually did any filming in the city. Also within the first 40 seconds of the first episode, an unseen tow truck dispatcher advises Eddie of an accident on "35W" which basical...

I tried to fix the picture in Photoshop, but now that it's legible the point being made is lost on me? (Direct link to larger version) I don't know if it is the point, but I do notice that people killed while on the sidewalk would have to be marked "other". The incident report assumes that drivers ...

Re: Proposed: Hyatt House Hotel- 900 Broadway

Nice. That will have some incredible views from the rooftop too. Wonder why there is a such a large gap between it and the exiting building next door. I'm not sure that the gap is very large. I think the rendering is a bit tapered to make the building seem less blocky. look at the gap at the sidewa...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I wonder if the speedometers may cause people to go faster than they are comfortable with.

Off topic, but I've also wondered the same about cars, particularly on the freeway.
